Description

J. G. De BRBTTON.
Childrens Rooker.
No. 207,846. Patented sept. 10,1878.
I Mo/71 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH G. DE BRETTON, OF DESDIER LANDING, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDRENS ROCKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,846, dated September 10, 1878; application filed June l0, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH G. DE BRETTON, a resident of Desdier Landing, parish of St. James, and State of Louisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Childrens Rockers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this speciication.
This invention relates to the manufacture of a new article of nursery furniture or toy; and it consists in mounting` upon a pair of rockers two seats, the backs of which shall be nearest one another-that is tc say, back to back-in order that the children occupying the same may be faced outward, and thus enabled to operate the contrivance with their feet. The seats may be permanently secured to the rockers with their backs joined together, or they may be made independent of one another, and adj ustably fitted to the said rockers, the latter plan admitting of the ernployment of inner seats, whereby greater accommodation is obtained.
On the drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my invention in its simplest forni, and Figs. 2 and 3 perspective views Yof the same as when provided with adjustable seats.
A A are the rockers, upon which are itted the outwardly-facing seats B B', having backs O Gf, that are made to incline toward one another.
The seats, as before stated, are either joined together or made independent of one another. The latter plan requires that the rockers shall be made of an additional length, so as to admit of the said seats being moved to their inward or outward positions thereupon, in either of which positions they are secured by wedges, as at d, or by any other suitable fastenings.
The application last mentioned permits of the introduction of an inner seat, e, which, for
simplicity of application, is iitted in guides j' f, that are secured to the under side of the seats, so that it may have a sliding motion therein, the said motion being limited by the bent ends or stops g g.
This invention is operated at either or both ends thereof by the feet of the children coming in contact with the floor or ground on the see-saw principle.
Having described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, in a childs rocker, of
two seats mounted on the rockers and arranged back to back, so that the children occupying the same may be faced outward, and thus enabled to operate the rocker with their feet, sub stantially as set forth.
. 2. The combination, in a childs rocker, of two independent seats adjustably mounted on the rockers and arranged back to back, for the purpose explained.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
JOSEPH e. DE nnErroN.
In presence of- L. PEYTAVIN, JOSEPH GONZALES.
