UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES A. PERLEY, OF BALDWIN SVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THOMPSON, PERLEY & WAITE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDS CHAIR AND CARRIAG E.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,046, dated April 2, 1878; application filed May 19, 1877. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. PERLEY, of Baldwinsville, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Childs Chair and'Carriage, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to a combined childs chair and carriage, the chair being adapted to be used both as a high and low chair. When in this latter condition it is also a carriage, and presents a table for toys, &c., and as a guard to keep the child on the seat.
Figure 1 represents the combined chair and carriage in side elevation, it being arranged for use as a high chair; and Fig. 2 represents it when used as a carriage and low chair.
The seat a and back and arms b may be of any usual shape. Attached to the seat are two pairs of legs, one short pair, 0, connected rigidly, and one long pair, d, hinged thereto at e. Adjusting devices f at each side are connected with the seat and with the short legs. The adjusting devices are preferably slotted, as at 2, to receive the shanks of suitable guide or set pins 9 passed through the long legs d and the bars, so as to hold the chair-seat in elevated position. The bars may be otherwise shaped, so as to be engaged and held by a suitable fastening device or set-screw. The foot-rest his connected with the bars f.
The short legs are provided with rollers i, to rest upon the floor when the chair is brought into the position shown in Fig. 2. The long legs have mounted thereon legs j k, to support a table or shelf, 1. At the back side of the legs (1 are rollers m, to serve as the forward wheels of the carriage when the chair-seat is lowered, so that the legs 01 extend forward, as shown in Fig. 2. The legs k are provided with projections n, which serve asfeet when the chair is elevated, as in Fig. 1.
I claim- 1. The seat and fixed short and pivoted long legs, in combination with adjusting devices and fastening devices to hold the adjusting devices and long legs together, substantially as described.
2. The seat, the short legs 0, the hinged long legs, the rollers or wheels 6 m, and the legs 3' k, fixed with relation to the long legs to form a high chair and low chair or carriage, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES A. PERLEY.
