ROTO DART GAME Leon E. Moss and Paul M. Titus, Paulsboro, N. J., assignors of one-fourth to W. Clayton Apgar, Woodbury, N. .L, and one-fourth to Max Glickman, Paulsboro, N. J.
Application June 10, 1936, Serial No. 84,544
6 Claims.
This invention relates to a dart game apparatus and it aims to provide a novel construction of such a game of skill for amusement, which has a revolving center serving as the target for the darts designed to add tothe fascination, sport,
and skill involved.
The more specific objects and. advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing, illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawing:--
Figure 1 is a View of the apparatus in front elevation;
Figure 2 is a view of the apparatus in rear elevation;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a view corresponding to Figure 4 but taken through a modified form; and
Figure 6 is a detail section taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, the apparatus comprises a stationary board or panel at IU having a central round opening H therethrough. Suitably attached to the rear of the board as at I 2, is a spider or bracket l3 having a central bearing I4.
A spindle is provided in the form of a bolt l5, having a screw-threaded portion [6 adjustably threaded in the bearing l4 and held in adjusted 35 position by lock nuts l1 engaging the threads i6 and the opposite end of the bearing I4.
Journaled on a smooth cylindrical portion l8 of the spindle I5 is a plate I9 which is held in place by the head of the bolt and by aplate 2| 40 and a series of lock nuts 22.
Located within the opening II is a disc target I or plate 23 which is removably screwed at 24 to the plate I9 so that the same may be removed when desired and other target discs substituted 45 therefor. The target disc on its face is divided into segments or sections colored in any desired manner, usually red and blue, with additional sections bearing numbers. Darts are adapted to be thrown against the target disc 23 and the 50 score will be determined by the segments or spaces which the dart strikes.
According to the present invention, the target disc is adapted to rotate at the time the darts are thrown to render the playing of the game 55 more fascinating. To this end, a casing 25 is fastened by brackets 26 to the board In and it contains an electric motor 2'! whose main shaft is designated28 and has a governor mechanism 29 slidable along the same and rotatable with it and carrying a friction disc at 30. Said friction disc 3|] is adapted to engage a friction disc 3i on a shaft 32 journaled in a bearing 33 in one side of the casing 25. Keyed to the shaft 32 is a small friction wheel 34 which frictionally engages the periphery of the disc or plate l9.
Accordingly when the motor operates; the shaft 32 will be driven and will accordingly drive the pulley 34, plate l9, and the target disc 23.
Various changes may be resorted to within the spirit and scope of the invention, and for instance the form shown in Figures 5 and 6 may be utilized. This form differs from the preceding form only with respect to the drive from a shaft 28', similar to that at 28, to a shaft 32 similar to that at 32. .In the present case, the shaft 28 has a worm 35 keyed thereto which is enmeshed with a worm wheel 36 keyed to the shaft 32'. The construction otherwise and the operation is the same.
We claim as our invention:-
l. A dart game apparatus of the class described comprising a board having an opening therethrough, a bracket thereon crossing the opening, means in said opening at which a dart is adapted to be thrown, means on the bracket journaling the first-mentioned means, and means on the board operable to rotate the first-mentioned means.
2. A dart game apparatus of the class described comprising a board having an opening therethrough, a spider thereon crossing the opening, a disc target in said opening, a spindle on the spider on which the target is journaled, a prime mover on the board, and gearing operated by the prime mover to rotate the disc target.
3. A dart game apparatus of the class described comprising a board, a spider thereon, a spindle mounted by the spider, a plate journaled on the spindle, a disc target carried by the plate, a prime moved mounted on the board, and gearing between the prime mover and the periphery of the plate to rotate the plate and target.
4. A dart game apparatus of the class described comprising a board, a spider thereon, a spindle mounted by the spider, a plate journaled on the spindle, a disc target carried by the plate, a prime mover mounted on the board, gearing between the prime mover and the periphery of the plate to rotate the plate and target, said spider having a bearing said spindle having screwthreads engaging screw-threads of the bearing, a head on the spindle, abutment means engaging screw-threads of the spindle, said plates being located between the head and abutment means.
5. A dart game apparatus of the class described comprising a board, a spider thereon, a spindle mounted by the spider, a plate journaled on the spindle, a disc target carried by the plate, a prime mover mounted on the board, and gearing between the prime mover and the periphery of the plate to rotate the plate and target, a casing on the board carrying the prime mover, a shaft extending laterally from the casing driven by the prime mover, and a gear on the shaft driving said plate.
6. A dart game apparatus of the class described comprising a board, a spider thereon, a spindle mounted by the spider, a plate journaled on the spindle, a disc target carried by the plate, a prime mover mounted on the board, and gearing between the prime mover and the periphery of the plate to rotate the plate and target, a casing on the board carrying the prime mover, a shaft extending laterally from the casing driven by the prime mover, a gear on the shaft driving said plate, and a governor controlled drive from the shaft to the motor.
