8 Claims. (Cl. 2-227) The present invention relates to trousers pro- As here shown, the shirt-holding means I2 comvided with means for holding down the shirt prises a plate I8 secured to the canvas interlinfront whereby to preventI the latter from creeping ing 20 of the Waist band by stitches 22 and posiout over the top of the trousers. tioned between said interlining and the facing 24.
The primary object of the present invention is Said plate is provided with ears 26 for a pivot pin 5 to provide an attachment for the above stated 28. A movable jawV member 30, which is subpurpose which may be permanently secured to the stantially narrower than plate I8, is pivotally conwaist band of the trousers in concealed position nected at one end thereof to said plate by means and operative to engage the shirt .front on the of the pin 28. Said jaw member 30 is mounted 10 inside of the trousers. in overlying relation to the plate I8 and over the 10 Another object of the invention is to provide facing 24 in position to grip the shirt front I4 a shirt-holding device which is simple in conto hold the latter between the facing covered struction and effective in operation and so related plate IB and the inner surface of the jaw memand attached to the trousers as to make unnecesber. A spring 32 is coiled about the pin 28 sary any substantial modification of the usual and has one end 34 in engagement with the plate 15 trouser construction, I8, and its opposite end 38 in engagement with The above objects of the invention, and other the member 30, thereby to releasably hold said objects ancillary thereto, will best be understood jaw member with considerable pressure against from the following description considered with the shirt front when the latter is gripped thereby.
reference to the accompanying drawings form- For the purpose of increasing the grip of the 20 ing a part of the present specification, it being jaw member on the shirt front, said jaw member understood that the constructions herein shown is provided with a plurality of teeth or projecand described are illustrative of the preferred tions 38. In order to facilitate the insertion of embodiments of the invention and not limitative the shirt front between the plate I8 and the jaw thereof. y 30, and the release of said shirt therefrom, the 25 In the drawings: shirt-holding means is constructed and arranged Fig. 1 is a fragmentary front View in elevation so that jaw member 30 may be releasably held in of a shirt and of the trousers embodying the retracted position. For this purpose the rear,v present invention; end of the plate I 8 is provided with reexed Fig. 2 is a view in elevation, on a larger scale, end portions 40 in position to engage the eyelets 30 of the inside of the Waist band and upper fly 42 formed at the pivoted end of the jaw memportion of the trousers illustrated in Fig. 1; ber 30. Said eyelets 42 have at surfaces 44 for Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on the line engagement by the retaining elements 40 of the 3-3 of Fig. 2; plate I8. Thus, as illustrated in Fig. 4a, when Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view on the line the jaw member 30 is moved to a position sub- 35 4--4 of Fig. 2; stantially at right angles to that shown in Fig. 4,
Fig. 4a`is a view similar to Fig. 4, showing one the flat surfaces 44 of the eyelet members 42 are of the members of the shirt-holding means in re- Y engaged by the inner surfaces of the retaining tracted position; elements whereby said jaw member is held in 40 Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view on the line retracted position against the closing action of the 40 5--5 of Fig. 2; spring 32.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a In the modification illustrated in Figs. 6 and modification; 7, the shirt-holding means and the attachment Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional view on the line thereof to the waist band of the trousers are sub- 'I-1 of Fig. 6; stantially the same as hereinbefore described, but 45 Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing anthe plate 48 Which is stitched to the interlining other modification. 20 instead of being fiat, as in the above described Referring to the drawings in detail, the waist construction, is somewhat dished having a short band I0 of the trousers has attached on the inside peripheral flange 50 within which there is sethereof means I2 engageable with the outer band cured a felt cushioning layer 52. The movable 5o I4 of the shirt front for holding the latter down jaw member 54 is of the same construction as i in the trousers. Said shirt-holding means is prefthe jaw member 30, and in other respects the erably made of metal and is attached to the inside shirt-holding means here shown is substantially of the waist band, being secured to and adjacent the same in construction and operation as that the end of the inner flap I6 of the trouser fly. illustrated in Figs. 2 to 5. It will be understood 55 fthat the shirt front is gripped between the layer 52 and the jaw member 54, and that the prongs on said jaw member in combination with the friction surface provided by the felt layer 52 effectively grip the shirt front and hold the latter securely against displacement without injury thereto. If desired, as shown in Fig. 8 a felt lining 56 may be interposed between plate I8 and the facing 24 thus providing a cushioning layer in the first described form of the invention.
While I have shown and described several forms of the present invention, it will be understood that the latter may be embodied otherwise than as herein disclosed, and certain changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
