//vV/\/7'0R KARL MARHOL 7' /-//5 ATTORNEY Perelman". 16, E937 mp STATES HAIR cn'r'rmo MACHINE Karl Marholt, Vienna, Austria Application October 9, 1935, Serial No. 44,212 In Austria February 5, 1935 10 Claims.
My invention relates to hair cutting machines for removing hairs from cavities, for instance the nostrils or the ear opening, of the kind having two tubes with cutting teeth and slots on their end rotatably arranged within each other. Machines of this type are operated by rotating the tubes I relatively to each other. My invention relates particularly to the driving means for efiecting such rotation by hand and aims to provide a machine of the class described which may bev easily and accurately operated by two fingers of the hand holding the same and enabling to effect the delicate operation of hair removing from cavities of the human body with great precision and without an'y danger of severing the skin. For this purpose, it is of great importance to avoid any back-action of the cutting movement upon the hand holding the machine. invention, thereforeya driving mechanism is provided which makes it possible to effect the rotation of the tubes by pressing upon one or two lateral lever arms with the fingers of the hand holding the machine.
A feature of my invention consists inproviding a driving mechanism by virtue of which the cutting movement of the tubes does not involve any change in their direction, so that the operation may be performed with complete safety. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the outer tube remains in an unvarying position in relation to the holding hand while the cutting is effected by rotation of the inner tube in order to avoid any undesired movement and therefore also avoiding any danger of bringing the cutting teeth in touch with the skin and cutting the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a machine of this kind which may be easily dismounted and reassembled for cleaning purposes and which may also be cleaned in the assembled state by leading a stream of air, water or any other cleaning agent through a bore passing through the inner tube.
The drawing shows the invention in an enlarged scale by way of example. Fig. 1 represents a side elevation of the device, Fig. 2 a view from below and Fig. 3 a section-through the tubes along the axis with the lever arms removed.
. The outer of, the two cylinders or tubes arranged within each other is designated by the reference I, the inner by-2. The outer cylinder is provided at 3, the inner at 4 in a knownmanner with sharply edged teeth and slots, acting like shears if the cylinders are rotated relatively to each other.. The inner cylinder is thickened at its lower end and provided with two pins arranged According to my at opposite ends of a diameter, the ends of which. are protected by bosses. On the outer cylinder i the two studs 1 are screwed in, on which the two lever arms 8 are rotatably mounted. These lever arms have U-shaped cross-section and embrace the two cylinders. A flange 9 .on each of the two lever arms, lying in the plane of movement, is provided with a slot Ill, in whichone of the pins 6 engages, whereby a gear connection is provided which effects a rotation of the tubes I and 2 against each other, if the lever arms 8 are compressed. The -fiattened portions 5 of the thickened ends of the inner tube 2 enables a closer compression of the lever arms 8 in their end position. A spring ll always holds the lever arms apart, so that an easy operation with one hand is possible. 1
In order'to allow an easy dismounting of thedevice for the purpose of cleaning it, the slots III are open towards the rear, so that the inner cylinder 2 may be easilypulle'd out. A screw 12, a pin under spring tension or the like serves to hold the tubes together. The screw I2 is screwed into the outer tube l and engages with its point a groove I3 arranged on a part or on the entire circumference of the inner tube 2.
The inner tube 2 is suitably provided in its longitudinal direction, with a bore passing therethrough and which may serve to conduct a cleaning agent (air, water, alcohol or the like), the arrangement of the gear elements being suitable so that they do not project into said bore.
When used, the parts 3 and 4 are introduced into the cavities, so that the hairs extend into the slots between the teeth. If the lever arms 8 are compressed, the tubes are rotated against each other and the hairs are clipped.
Several modifications are possible without leaving the scope of the invention. In particular, the spring I I may be dispensed with, if the lever arms are provided with handles for the insertion of the holding fingers. The spring may also be fastened on both tubes l and 2 and may tend to rotate the same opposite'to the direction of actuation. The gear elements 6 and'lll may also be of other kind, for instance on the flanges 9, racks may be attached which are in mesh with a pinion gear on part 5.
The tubes may be cylindrical or may have another similar form, for instance the form of truncated cones with the cutting teeth and slots on the smaller base.
