IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHMENTS FOR SECURING CAPS 0R COVERS T0 CANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,131, dated August 20, 1878; application filed August 2, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL PARKS, of Trumbull, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Securing Screw Caps or Covers to Oil-Cans and other vessels, which improvements are fully set forth in the followingspecification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a top or plan view of the upper portion of an oil-can, showing my improvement attached thereto; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same.
This invention has for its object securing screw caps or covers to oil-cans and other vessels, by means of which the cap or cover is securely fastened to the neck of the can, so as not to get lost or misplaced when the cap or cover is unscrewed.
The invention consists in the combination, with the screw-neck of a can or other vessel and a screw cap or coyer therefor, of a chain and swiveled plate for securing said cap or cover to said oil-can or other vessel, all as will be hereinafter fully described.
In the drawing, A represents the upper portion or neck of an oil-can or other vessel, provided with the usual screw-thread a, and to which the cap or cover B, provided with the usual screw-thread b, is screwed thereon when it is desired to close the mouth or opening of said vessel. Centrally secured to said cap or cover is a metallic plate, C, it'being' swiveled or pivoted to the cap at one end by a bolt, 0. To the opposite end of said plate one end of a chain, D, is secured, the opposite end oi said chain being secured to thcneck or body of the vessel A.
By the above-described manner of securing screw caps or covers to oil-cans or other vessels, the cap or cover can be screwed or unscrewed withont the chain winding around with it, and also when said cap or cover is unscrewed it will not get lost or misplaced.
I claim as my invention- The combination, with the screw-neck or body of an oil-can or other vessel and a screw cap or cover therefor, of the swiveled or pivoted plate and chain, for securing-said cap or cover to said oil-can or other vessel, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
