Description

BATHTUB Filed March 4, 1936 l Inventor 5 faac, arzzer By@ @5w A tt orneys Patented Feb. 9, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bathtubs and the object of the invention is to provide a tub of such a construction as will promote safety and reduce to a minimum the possibility of injury as a result of slipping while standing in the tub.
The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view through a tub embodying the features of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary top plan view of the tub at one end of the latter.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through the tub.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals it will be seen that the tub indicated generally by the reference numeral 5 is characterized by having in the bottom thereof and for the greater portion of its length a raised section 0, extending from one end of the tub to a point inwardly from the relatively opposite end of the tub and a smaller depressed section l extending from the terminus of the raised section to the last named end of the tub.
The depressed section 'i of the tub is adapted for use as a foot bath and is provided with the usual drain 8.
The raised section 6 is intended for use when taking a body bath or a shower and to promote safety the raised section 6 is provided in the top 5 thereof with a recess of slightly less length and width than the section G and fitted and secured in any suitable manner within this recess, and indicated by the reference numeral 9 is a mat l0 of rubber or other suitable material. At the 1o junction of the sections 6 and 'I there is provided a raised transverse rib il which intermediate its ends is provided with a drain slot l2 through which the water will drain from the mat I0 into the depressed end 'l of the tub to be 15 carried oi through the drain 8. A
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A bathtub having in the bottom thereof a raised portion extending from substantially one end of 2o the tub to a point materially inwardly from the relatively opposite end of the tub, said raised portion having a recess in the top face thereof,
a mat fitting snugly within said recess, and a rib projecting upwardly from. the raised bottom of 25 the tub and provided intermediate its end with a drain slot.
