CHARLES H. PRICE, JR, 0F HYDE PARK, MASSACIliUSElTTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK FRANCILOW, OF MEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
BATH-TUB LINING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Applicationflled April 24, 1913. Serial No. 763,417.
Patented Dee-23, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gimmes H. Paton, J12, a citizen of the United States, residin at Hyde Park, in the county of Suffolk an. State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Bath- Tub Linings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sanitary linings for bath tubs, and has for its object to provide a device which will prevent the spread of disease by the use of public bath tubs in hotels and similar places, wherein it is necessary that several persons use the same tub.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device made of paper or other suitable material, which can be easily folded and carried about so that a person desiring to use these devices may carry a number in a comparatively small space.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device which maybe cheaply manufactured so that, after having been used, it may be discarded and the expense of supplyin new ones will be at a minimum.
With tie above and other objects in view,
I will now-proceed to describe my invention in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a bath tub with my improved lining applied thereto ;'Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improved bathtub ning as it would appear when removed from the tub; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank fro which the lining is made. '1
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 1 indicates a bath tub ofthe usual construction, having a turned rim 2 and the outlet 3. The usual inlet opening 4 is provided, through which the hot and cold water pipes from the supply are adapted to extend.
My improved lining comprises two sections, the first being formed of the main body portion 5 having the laterally extend- 'ing side portions 6 and 7 formed integrally therewith. One end of the main body portion 5 is extended, as shown at 8, to form the front or foot portion ofthe tub. The body portion 5 terminates a short distance from the rear extremities of the side portions, as is clearly illustrated in Fi 3, and thus the side portions are permitte to bend in order that the device may be used on tubs of different sizes.
The second section of my improved lining comprises a bottom 9, preferably formed as clearly illustrated in the drawings and provided at its rounded end with a back ortion 10, which extends transversely of the ottom 9 and is adapted to be bent to conform to the shape of the rear end ofthe tub. This portion 10 is provided with the laterally extending portions 11 and 12, which are adapted to overlie the side portions 6 and 7 of the main body portion 5, as will be clearly seen upon referring to the drawings.
In the manufacturing of my improved device, the blanks indicated in Fig. 3 are clearly illustrated in Fig. 2. Thus it will be seen that a lining will be formed which will prevent any portion of the person of the user coming in contact with the interior of the tub. As the material is a substantially Waterproof material, inasmuch as the paper before being cut to form the blank is waterproofed, the same will retain the water in the tub until it is desired to drain said tub.
Whilein the foregoing I have shown and described the referred embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I may change the specific, arrangements of parts without in any way'departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention what I claim is:
A lining for bath tubs comprising two sections, one of said sections having laterally extending sides formed integral therewith, a foot portion at one extremity of the said section and extending longitudinally therefrom, a second section adapted to overlie the 4 meme first mentioned sect-ion, said second section In testimony whereof I effix m .signatnre having laterally extending arms formed 1nln presence of two Witnesses.
