(01. 2-102) This invention relates to improvements in vests and theobject of the invention is to provide a simple, light-weight vest comprising only the two 7 front parts which cover the front of the wearers body and providedwith means whereby such parts can be readily and snugly fitted on the wearer and will retain their shape during usage.

It will be observed from the drawing, that a vest embodying the invention comprises only the two front parts which cover the front of the wearers body and has no conventional back as is common in the usual vest. The two front parts each comprise an outer layer of facing material and an inner lining which is substantially coextensive with the outer facing material and which is secured at its edge portions to the facing material by stitches in the usual manner. As shown in the drawing, the lower sections H] and I l of the facing material and the inner lining, respectively,

of the front parts meet at the center of the wear ers body and are provided with cooperating buttons and buttonholes for securing them together in the usual manner. The upper sections I2 and I3 of the facing material and the inner lining, respectively, of the front parts gradually diminish in width upwardly to form the open bosom which will expose the shirt front. These latter sections terminate at a point at the shoulders where they will be covered by the coat of the suit and are connected together at their upper ends by a band of material M which is secured to such sections by the lines of stitching Hi. The band of material [4 is arcuately shaped and of such width that it fits snugly and flatly around the neck of the wearer. The band I4 preferably consists of a I single piece of material which has been folded over and an arcuately shaped piece of lining material interposed between the folded portions and the folded over portions and inner lining secured together by a line of stitching l6 whereby a neck band is obtained which fits comfortably around the wearers neck and is relatively strong.

The lower sections Ill and H of the facing material and the inner lining, respectively, of the front parts gradually diminish in width rearwardly forming extensions which are adapted to fit around the waist of the wearer. As shown in the drawing, each of the straps l9 may be provided with a plurality of buttonholes so that the garment can be used by people having widely varying waist sizes. 15

It will be seen from the above that the vest is securely and snugly held in place on the wearer by the halter arrangement which fits around the neck of the wearer and the elastic straps which are attached to the rear suspender buttons of the 2 wearers trousers. The elastic straps which are under tension when in position prevent any wrinkles forming in the front parts and by reason of their attachment to the rear of the trousers prevent any tendency of the front parts to ride 25 up during usage. This method of securing the vest in position also assists in holding the wearers trousers in position, which result may be further enhanced by extending the straps through the belt holders 2i usually provided on the rear 30 of the trousers.

As shown in Fig. 3, the vest may be used as the sole means for holding the wearers trousers in proper position. In this embodiment of the invention, the elastic or stretchable straps I9, 35 instead of terminating at the ends of the front part extensions as above described and as shown in Fig. 1, extend through the front parts between the outer facing sections II] and the lining sections H to a point approximately midway of said 40 sections as shown in Fig. 2, then project out through slots provided in the lining sections II and extend to a point short of the meeting edges of the front parts. The portion 22 of the straps which extend between the outer facing material 45 and the lining material are preferably secured to the latter by stitches to prevent any tendency of the front parts to wrinkle and to hold them snugly against the body of the wearer. The projecting portions 23 of the straps are adapted to be 50 passed through the front belt-holding members 26 provided on the front of the trousers and are provided on their outer ends with some means by which they may be secured together at the front of the trousers, as shown in Fig. 3. It will thus be seen that those portions of the straps H! which are attached to the rear suspender buttons of the trousers will hold the rear portion of the latter in proper position while the portions 23 of the straps which extend through the belt-holding members 26 at the front of the trousers and are secured together in the manner of an ordinary belt will hold the front portion of the trousers in position. Also by reason of the arrangement of the several parts and the elasticity of the straps the vest fronts and the trousers will fit snugly and securely and tidy appearance at all times.

I claim:

1. A vest comprising front parts connected at their upper ends by an arcuately shaped neck section to form a halter, a strip of stretchable material secured to each front part, one end section of each of said strips projecting rearwardly from a front part and being provided with a fastening element adapted to engage with a fastening element positioned on the rear of the wearers trousers, the other end sections of said strips being adapted to be extended through the belt holding elements on the front of the wearers trousers and being provided with cooperating fastener elements whereby they can be attached together at the front of the wearer,

A vest comprising front parts having an outer layer of facing material and an inner lining substantially coextensive with said facing material, the upper ends of said parts being connected by an arcuately shaped neck section to form a halter and the lower portions of said parts diminishing in width rearwardly to form extensions adapted to fit around the waist of the wearer, a strip of stretchable material positioned between the facing material and lining of each of said extensions and projecting from the rear ends thereof, each of said projecting ends being provided with a buttonhole adapted to engage with a button provided on the rear of the wearers trousers, the other end sections of said strips projecting through slots provided in the linings of said front parts and being adapted to extend through the belt holding elements provided on the front of the wearers trousers, said latter end sections being provided with cooperating fastener elements for detachably securing them together.

4. A vest for use in combination with trousers having fastening elements provided on the rear thereof, comprising two front parts each having an upper section which diminishes in width upwardly and a lower rearwardly extending section which diminishes in width rearwardly in such manner as to provide each front part with a rearwardly curved rear edge and to cause close fitting of such parts against the body of the wearer --when said rearwardly extending sections are under tension, an arcuately shaped neck section connecting the upper ends of said upper sections on the body of the wearer and will present a neat to form a halter and an extension composed of stretchable material secured to each lower section and projecting rearwardly from the rear end of said section and of a length insufficient to meet v d when the vest is worn, each of said extensions beout departing from the spirit and scope of the ing provided with a fastening element incapable of engagement with the other, each of said fastening elements being adapted to engage with a fastening element on the rear of the wearers trousers, whereby when the vest is worn there is exerted on said front parts through said stretchable extensions a slight tension adapted to cause close fitting of the vest against the body of the wearer.

A vest for use in combination with trousers having buttons provided on the rear thereof, comprising two front parts each having an outer layer of facing material and an inner lining substantially coextensive with said facing material, the facing material and inner lining of each part having an upper section which diminishes in width upwardly and a lower rearwardly extending section which diminishes in width rearwardly in such manner as to provide each front part with a rearwardly curved rear edge and to cause close fitting of such parts against the body of the wearer when the rearwardly extending sections thereof are under tension, an arcuately shaped neck section connecting the upper ends of the upper sections to form a halter and a strip of stretchable material secured between the lower sections of the facing material and lining of each part and projecting rearwardly from the rear ends thereof, said strips being of a length insuificient to meet when the vest is Worn, each of said strips being provided with a buttonhole incapable of engagement with the other but adapted to engage with a button on the rear of the wearers trousers, whereby when the vest is worn there is exerted on said front parts through said strips of stretchable material a slight tension adapted to cause close fitting of the vest against the body of the wearer.

A vest for use in connection with trousers having fastening elements provided on the rear end thereof, comprising two front parts each having an upper section which diminishes in width upwardly and a lower rearwardly extending section which diminishes in width rearwardly in such manner as to provide each front part with a rearwardly curved rear edge and to cause close fitting of such parts against the body of the wearer when said rearwardly extending sections are under tension, an arcuately shaped neck section connecting the upper ends of said upper sections to form a halter, and means secured to said lower sections and adapted to coact with the trousers on the wearer to exert a rearward and downward tension on said parts and thereby cause close fitting of the vest against the body of the wearer, said means comprising a pair of straps made of stretchable material, each of said straps projecting rearwardly from the rear end of a lower section, said straps being of a length insufficient to meet when the vest is worn and being provided with fastening elements incapable of engagement with each other but adapted to engage with cooperating fastener elements on the rear of the wearers trousers so that a slight tension is exerted on said straps when the vest is worn.

A vest for use in combination with trousers having fastening elements provided on the rear thereof, comprising two front parts connected at their upper ends by an arcuately shaped neck portion to form a halter, each of said parts having a lower rearwardly extending section which diminishes in width rearwardly in such manner as to provide each front part with a rearwardly curved rear edge and to cause close fitting of such parts against the body of the wearer when said sections are under tension, an extension composed of stretchable material secured to each lower section and projecting rearwardly from the rear end thereof, each of said extensions being provided with a fastening element adapted to engage with a fastening element on the rear of the wearers trousers, whereby when the vest is worn there is exerted on said front parts through said stretchable extensions a slight tension adapted to cause close fitting of the vest against the bod; of the wearer, and an extension attached to each of said lower sections and projecting forwardly from the rear end on the inner sides thereof, said extensions being adapted to be extended through the belt holding elements on the front of the wearers trousers and being provided with cooperating fastener elements for securing them together.

8. A vest for use in combination with trousers having fastening elements provided on the rear thereof and belt holding elements on the front thereof, comprising two front parts connected at their upper ends by an arcuately shaped neck portion, a rearwardly projecting extension composed of stretchable material attached to the lower portion of each part and being provided with a fastening element adapted to engage with a fastening element on the rear of the wearers 1 trousers, whereby when the vest is worn there is exerted on said front parts through said stretchable extensions a slight tension adapted to cause close fitting of the vest against the body of the wearer, and a second extension attached to each of said parts, said second extensions projecting forwardly between such parts and the body of the wearer and being adapted to be extended through the belt holding elements on the front of the wearers trousers, and cooperating fastener elements provided on said second extensions for detachably securing such extensions together.
