A pintle pin 2i passes through the curled portions I9EL and the flat portion I4*n for pivotally connecting these parts together. stop for limiting pivoting of the top trapezoidal guide plate I9 to the iposition illustrated in Fig. 9. In this position, the material of the guide plate strikes the hook.
A latch element 23 is swivelly mounted by a rivet 24 upon the top trapezoidal guide plate and is engageable beneath the top hook 14d to hold the top guide plate down and against the cam portion. 'I'he latch element has its free end portion 23a formed with a wedge surface (see Fig. 11) by which it is adapted to engage beneath the hook Md to accomplish the latching. A handle 25 is associated with the latch element by which the latter may be conveniently operated.
'I'he handle 25 includes a transverse bar portion 25ai which engages beneath the latch element 23 and within edge recesses 26 (see Fig. 10) formed in the latch element. The latch element has a hollow protuberance 23b in which a'bent prong portion 21 from the bar 25a is disposed. The protuberance 23b normally hides the bent prong. In the position of the handle .shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 8 the prong 21 is directed downwards, and when the slide is engaged on the hook fasteners I2, engages between certain of the hooks to hold the slide in a fixed position. The handle 25 has an offset inner end 25b which acts as a stop to limit pivoting of the handle to the position indicated by the dot and dash lines 25 in Fig. 3. In this position of the handle the prong 21 is disposed within the protuberance 23b and the handle may be moved to pivot the latch element 23, as indicated by the dot and dash lines 23 in Fig. 2.' The guide plates may then be outwardly pivoted for removing the fastener slide. 'Ihe element 23 is limited in its pivoting by a prong 28 projecting from the front edge of the guide plate I9. The latch 23 has a corner 2c thereof cut away which provides for the limited pivoting. This may be understood by anI examination of Figs. 9 and.11. Fig. 14 illustrates the bent prong 21 disposed withinl the hollow protuberance 23h.
In Figs. 15 and 16 another embodiment of the invention is disclosed which distinguishes from the previous form merely in the construction of the pivot for the latch. According to this form of the invention, the top tapezoidal guide plate is formed with a prong 28 having a projecting nger 28" bent downwards through an opening in the inner end of the latch to pivotally support the latch. Thus, the rivet 24 has been dispensed with. In other respects, this form of the invention is identical to the previous form and the parts thereof may be recognized by the same reference numerals.`
'I'he operation of the fastener slide may be .understood by an inspection of Fig. 1. When the fastener slide is in this condition it may be moved towards the right to close the Ahooi: fasteners, or towards the left to open the hook fasteners. In either the closed or the open position of the hook fasteners the slide may be easily removed by forcing the handle 25v laterally to the position indicated by the dot and dash lines 25' in Fig. 2. The latch is then open and the trapezoidal top and bottom guide plates may The top hook Md serves as a be pivoted apart a short distance to the position shown in Fig. 9.. The fastener slide may then be removed and may be replaced in the reverse order to that necessary for its removal.
A feature of this invention resides in the construction of the post I4 and the parts associated with the post to produce a sturdy and efficient structure. The fact that the curled portions IS!a are disposed behind the base portions of the arrow shaped cam I4b is important. Furthermore, the arrangement of the arrow shaped portion on the fiat portion I 4a ofthe position and the arrangement of the rivet portion on the bottom thereof functions in obtaining the objects desired.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent isz- 1.
