Description

F. LORUSSO HACKSAW Filed Jan. 7, 1935 13 olQou' Fidi/fafa ATTORN EY Patented Mar. 17, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
be easily and quickly applied and removed therefrom and is capable of securing the blade in selected positions with respect to said frame.
With these and other objects in View, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View illustrating a hack saw constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation illustrating the same.
Figure 3 is a top plan view illustrating the device. Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral I indicates a saw frame including integral portions 2 and 3 arranged at right angles to one another. Secured to the end of the portion 2 of the frame is a handle supporting element 4 constructed from spaced plate-like members 5. A plate 6 is secured to the handle attaching portion 4 and is provided with a slot 'I forming said plate into a handle having a finger grip 8 lying along one side of the slot. The handle supporting member 4 slidably supports a bar 9 on which are formed hooks I0 and II. Similar hooks I2 and I3 are formed on the end of the portion 3 of the frame. The hooks I0 and II are arranged on adjacent faces of the bar 9 while the hooks I2 and I3 are arranged on adjacent faces of the portion 3 of the frame. The hooks described are for the purpose of entering openings in the end of a saw blade I4. The hooks thus described permit the blade to be adjusted on the frame I into selected positions.
A socket I5 is formed on the bar 9 and receives a projection I6 formed on the pivoted end of a lever II. Adjacent to the pivoted end of the lever is a notch I8 to be engaged by a spring-pressed latch I9 movably supported in slots formed in the member 4. 'I'he lever I 'I is pivoted to the member 4 and has a curved handle 20 to engage with one edge of the plate 6 when said lever is positioned to draw the blade I4 tightly in the frame. The lever when engaging the plate 6 is so positioned that the latch will enter the notch and lock the lever against pivotal movement. A nger piece 2| is secured to the latch and is pivoted to the member 4.
The movement of the lever into its several positions permits the blade to be easily removed and replaced in the frame and drawn tightly in said frame.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A hack saw comprising a frame including an end portion having a saw blade detachably secured thereto and a pair of spaced parallel plates paralleling said end portion, a handle secured to said plates, a bar slidably supported by said plates and having a socket, a lever pivoted to said plates with the pivoted end thereof lying between said plates, a projection formed on the pivoted end of the lever and engaging walls of the socket, saic' lever having a notch located at its pivoted end, a spring pressed latch member slidably secured to said plates for a limited sliding movement to enter the notch during a certain position of the lever for securing said bar against sliding movement, a finger piece for disengaging the latch member from the notch to free the lever, and means for detachably connecting the bar to the saw blade.
