IMPROVEMENT IN GROCERS BINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,542, dated July 30, 1578; application filed June 24, 1878.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROWLAND K. CURTIS, of \Vabash, in the county of lVabash and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grocers Bins, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to certain improvements in chests, bins, or other receptacles for flour, meal, sugar, coffee, or other groceries or articles of provisions, whereby said receptacles may be readily shifted and tilted in order to fill the same or remove the contents, as may be desired.
Receptacles for various articles have heretofore been constructed with movable drawers adapted to tilt automatically when drawn out, and, also, the drawers of such receptacles have been provided with friction-rollers to f1 cilitate their removal; but such have proved inconvenient, owing to the fact that when not provided with friction-rollers itis ditlieult to move the drawer out and in, and when provided with said rollers; as heretofore constructed, the arrangement of said rollers has been such that they fail to perform any part in automatt eally tilting the drawer. Moreover, as heretofore constructed there has been no provision for automatically guiding and holding the drawer in place when fully inserted.
The object of my invention is to obviate these objections and to this end it consists in the combinatiomin a grocer-s bin,of a drawer mounted on a triangular frame provided with rollers at its angles, and a casing having a recess for the reception of the rear roller, in
order to guide and retain the drawerin place, said casing being provided with a beveled front edge at its bottom, to facilitate the tiltin g and insertion of the dra'wer,as more fully hereinafter specified.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a grocers meal, flour, or sugar bin, showing the movable receptacle partially withdrawn and tilted at a convenient angle for handling its contents. Fig. 2 represents a bottom view of the receptacle detached from the casing or chest, and Fig. 3 a transverse vertical section.
The letter A represents a rectangular casin g or chest, constructed of wood or other suitable material, open atone side, and provided with a movable drawer, bin, or receptacle, 1 To the bottom of said receptacle or drawer is secured a rectangular or triangular frame, 0, provided at each angle with a roller-caster or roller, I), upon which the drawer or receptacle rests and is adapted to travel.
The bottom of the chest or casing termt nates in front a slight distance back of the opening, and has its edge beveled, in order that the wheels may ride freely upon the same when the drawer has been fully withdrawn.
The object in thus constructing the bottom of the chest or casing is to automatically tilt. the drawer or bin when drawn out, in order to present it at an angle, and thus facilitate the handling of its contents.
A guide-groove, I is formed in the bottom of the receptacle for this purpose of guiding tlze rear wheel after the front wheels have been withdrawn from the casing.
The advantages of my improvementwill be apparent from the above descriptiol'l, as it will be seen. that the receptacles and their contents can be handled with the utmost facility and convenience.
lVhen the casing is employed as a counter, the bins may open to either or both sides, thus affording increased facilities for storage.
In case the invention is appliedto a barrel, it will be perceived that the barrel may be tilted in three directions, enabling it to be handled with convenience from all sides.
What I claim is The combination, in a grocers bin, of the receptacle 13, mounted on a triangular frame, 0, provided with rollers D at its angles, of the casing A, having a recess, E, for the reception of the rear wheel, in order to retain the receptacle in place when fully inserted in the casing, and provided with a beveled front edge at its bottom, to facilitate the tilting and the insertion of the receptacle, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of the subscribing witnesses.
ROWLAND K. CURTIS.
