SAMUEL GRUMP, OF MONT CLAIR, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT lN PRINTERS CHASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,541, dated July 30, 1878; application filed May 18, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL ORUMP, of Mont Clair, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Printers Chases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to printers chases, and is especially designed to obviate the inconveniences that are incident to the blocking of stereotype and electrotype plates.
It consists in the employment of an ordinary chase, in connection with a removable bottom, arranged to fill the interior of the chase. The upper surface of the bottom is smooth, and the plate is secured to it by means of furniture and wedges, or in any other convenient manner, the edges of the plate being rectangular, or otherwise constructed, to permit of the plate being suitably fastened in place.
The details of construction appear hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the upper side of a device embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the under side of the same device.
A is a chase of ordinary construction. B is a bottom, which I make removable. The
upper surface of the bottom B is even, and occupies a plane sufficiently below the plane of the upper surface of the chase to accommodate the plate and to permit the insertion of the proper wedges and furniture in lockin g up the form, as indicated'with sufficient clearness in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 2 I show a movable bottom, B, which is cast or made with the rectangular edges 0, and secured in place by means of the pins d, that are passed through coincident apertures provided in the edge of the bottom and chase, as shown in said Fig. 2.
In practice, I construct the plate with rectangular edges, and secure it in place by means 7 A printers chase having a removable bottom,.substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing improvement in printers chases, as above described, I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of May, 1878.
, SAML. ORUMP.
