Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,373, dated July :23, 1878; application filed July 3, 1878.
To Il whom it muy concern:
Be it known that I, GALEB G; W ALwoR'rH, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Steam-Valves, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing.
In the process of heating buildings by steam much inconvenience has been experienced by leakage at the stuffing-boxes of the valvespindles, carpets, ceilings, Src., becoming saturated with water, and thereby greatly dam- C, the spindle; D, the stnflingbox; E, the evaporating-cups surroundiu g the body of the valve. There are two of these cups shown. In lieu of these two one may be used, and the location may be around the body of the Valve, as shown, or about the stand C but the body of the valve is preferable, because the heat is more intense at the body than at the stein, and its evaporating power, of course, greater. I make the cups or receivers open, so that the evaporatin g water may escape freely and without being condensed, as it would be if covered.

The combination, in a steam-valve having the body A, stand B, spindle O, and stuffingbox D7 of the open evapora-ting cup or cups E, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
