STEAM TRAP. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 23, 1922.

STEAM mar.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1922.
Application filed March 23, 1922. Serial No. 546,188.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, RnINHoLn Lorrnnn, residing at Berlin, Germany (my post-office address being Taborstrasse 15, Berlin So. 33, Germany), have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Steam Traps, for which I have filed application for patent in Germany, Sept. 30, 1920, and in England Feb. 27, 1922, and of which the following is formed as labyrinths and controlled by the float 0. These valves consist of the fixed tubular part (Z having equidistant discs 0,
and the sleeve f adapted to turn on the axis of the part (Z and having internal annular ribs 9 extending between the discs 0. In the discs 0 and the ribs 9 are perforations h, adapted to register with each other; normally, however, the perforations in discs 0 are at an angle a to those in ribs 9.
The steam or water or both enters at i and water collects in the casing a. As the quantity of this water increases the float rises and turns the sleeve 7 of the outlet valve b. Presently the perforations ]tregister with each other, whereupon the passage for the exit of waterv is free. According to the quantity of the water the perforations h register more or less; when they are out of register there is only a labyrinthine passage through which the steam or water can be forced. The annular ribs g slide against the part (Z and the discs 6 against the sleeve f so that at these places neither steam nor water can pass.
Having now described my invention and the manner in which it may be performed what I claim is, l
1. In a steam trap, the combination of a tubular member carrying a plurality of:
axially spaced external disks, a cylindrical member having a plurality of internal annular ribs positioned to take up the spaces between said disks, the said disks and ribs I having perforations adapted to register to her and means for angularly moving the define a passage, means defining a conduit between said passage and the tubular memtubular member and the cylindrical member relatively to one another.
2. In a steam trap, the combination of a tubular member carrying a plurality of axially spaced externaljdisks, a cylindrical member having one end closed and having a plurality of internal annular ribs positioned to take up the spaces between said disks, the disks and ribs having perforations co-operating in one relative angular position member to define a passage, means between the closed end of the cylindrical member and 1 tubular member defining a conduit between the latter and the passage and means connected with the closed end of the cylindrical" member for rotating it about the tubular member.
8. An. article of manufacture, comprising a tubular member carrying a plurality of axiallyspaced external disks having aligned perforations, a cylindrical member having a plurality of internal annular ribs positioned to take up the spaces between the disks, the ribs having aligned perforations adapted to be aligned in one relative angular position of the tubular member and the cylindrical member with the perforations in the disks and .form therewith a passage and means between the cylindricalmember and the tubular member defining a conduit between the latter and thesaid passage.
of the tubular member and the cylindrical 4. An article of manufacture, comprising a tubular member carrying a plurality of axially spaced external disks having aligned perforations, a cylindrical member having one end closed and having a plurality of internal annular ribs positioned to take up the spaces between said disks, the ribs having aligned perforations adapted to be aligned In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
