Description
ot.20,1936. C BAUM' A 2,058,002
REFR'IGERATOR TRAY Filed Feb. 6, 1935 Patented Oct. 20, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT orificev 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in rotary trays, being particularly directed to a novel construction applied for use in refrigerators or the like.
Broadly, it is an object of this invention to provide for a tray capable of disposition in a refrigerator or the like, wherein there is disposed upon a base, a rotary table supported in spaced relationship with respect to said base, for rotary movement, and having dished formations on its carrier surface to provide for disposition of receptacles for various food products, or the like.
Specifically, it is an object of this invention to provide for a tray of the class specified, wherein a plurality of plates forming respectively a base and rotatable table, are provided with centrally upstanding pillars, one serving as a sleeve with respect to the other, whereby the table, dished to carry a plurality of receptacles, may be supported for rotation in spaced relationship with respect to the base, the base and table structures, after assembly, being locked to permit only rotary movement.
These and other advantages, capabilities and features of the invention will appear from the subjoined detailed description of one specific embodiment thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan View o-f the device.
Figure 2 is a front elevation taken in section along lines 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fro'nt elevation in section, of the pillar assembly.
Referring to the reference characters in the drawing, numeral I represents a base formed of a metallic stamping and having an aperture II centrally thereof, in which aperture there is disposed upstanding pillar I2, said pillar being fixed with respect to the base by crimping to form circular bead I3 adjacent the upper surface of the base, and spinning the edges thereof to form circular flange I4 below the lower surface of the base, to form a rm mounting for the upstanding pillar I2 with respect to said base.
Numeral I5 represents a table formed of stamped metal, having a series of dished portions I6, said table having a central aperture I'I, in which is disposed upstanding pillar or sleeve I8 of diameter greater than pillar I2, as to form a sleeve therefor, said pillar or sleeve I8 being crimped to form bead I9 adjacent the upper surface of said table, and spun to form flange for gripping the peripheral surface adjacent aperture Il below the lower surface of the table, to
provide for a rm mounting for upstanding sleeve I8 with respect to said table.
To space the table I5 with respect to the base I 0 there is provided an annular ring or washer' 2| of diameter greater than the bead I3 on pillar I2, and adapted to rest on the base adjacent such bead, said ring having its lower surface 22 contacting the upper surface of base I0, and its upper face 23 contacting the under surface of flange 20 of the sleeve I8, such ring being freely movable with respect to the base, table, or their respective pillars.
As shown in Figure 2, receptacle 24, of a struc.- ture conforming to the dished surfaces I6 formed on the table, is adapted to be disposed in such dished surface as to be maintained against displacement when disposed on the table, and the latter is rotatably displaced, such receptacle being separable for disposal and removal from said table when desired.
To maintain the respective pillars and the base and table associated therewith from lateral displacement with respect to one another, stop member 25 having a shank 26 and a head 21, is disposed, so that its shank is wedged intoI the open end of pillar I2 and its head projects beyond the open end of sleeve I8.
In assembly, the crimped pillar I2 is spun to form flange I4, for fixing the pillar to the base; crimped sleeve I8 is spun with respect to table I5 to fix sleeve I8 to the table. Annular ring 23, of a washer formation, is dropped over pillar I2 to rest on the table I0 adjacent crimped formation I3. The table assembly is then disposed on the base assembly by sliding sleeve I8 over pillar I2, with the undersurface of the table, particularly the flange 20, resting on the annular ring or washer 23. The shank 2B, o-f locking member 25, is forced into the free end of pillar I2, so that its head projects beyond the free end of sleeve I8.
The above assembly, wherein there are formed dished portions, which may be varied in contour and conformation over the specific circular formation herein shown, may then have disposed in such dished portions, receptacles of corresponding sections, in the particular instance, the circular dished portion having a cooperating circular receptacle.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made to the details of construction Without departing from the general spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, a base, an upstanding hollow pillar interlocked therewith centrally thereof, a table, and an upstanding sleeve interlocked therewith centrally thereof, said sleeve being disposed on said pillar whereby to permit rotation of the table with respect to said base, and means disposed in said pillar and projecting beyond said sleeve, providing a stop for preventing lateral displacement of said table with respect to said base, and an annular member surrounding said pillar and resting between said base and table to provide a bearing surface therebetween, and a dished formation on said table for insertion of receptacles therein.
2. In a device of the class described, abase, an upstanding hollow pillar interlocked therewith centrally thereof, a table, and an upstanding sleeve interlocked therewith centrally thereof, said sleeve being disposed on said pillar whereby to permit rotation of the table with respect to said base, means carried at the free end of said pillar and resting against the free end of said sleeve, for providing a stop against lateral displacement of said sleeve with respect to said pillar and a bearing member surrounding said pillar and acting against surfaces on said base and table.
3. In a device of the class described, a base, an upstanding hollow pillar interlocked therewith centrally thereof, a table, and an upstanding sleeve interlocked therewith centrally thereof, said sleeve being disposed on said pillar whereby to permit rotation of the table with respect to said base, and means disposed in said pillar and projecting beyond said sleeve, for providing a stop against lateral displacement of said sleeve with respect to said pillar, and a bearing member surrounding said pillar and acting against surfaces of said base and table.
