The invention relates to a jar holder and top remover and more particularly to a combination fruit jar wrench and holder.

The primary object of the invention is the pro- 5 vision of a device of this character wherein a container, such as a fruit jar or the like, can be firmly and securely clamped and its cap or top removed with dispatch and without inconvenience to the operator of the device.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the clamping jaws for the container are susceptible of adjustment with relation to each other so that these will firmly clamp the container of varying size and also the cap or top of such container can be readily and conveniently removed without excessive labor on the part of the user of the device. The jaws for removing the cap or top may also be adjusted with respect to each other for the tting thereof to such cap or top of the container.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eicient in its purposes, readily and easily handled for its application and removal to and from a container, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, corn- 30 bination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the device, which is in the form of a combination fruit jar wrench and holder, comprises a substantially L- shaped body piece I having a hinged piece II, the same being connected with the piece I Il by the pintle I2 which hinges these pieces together. Swingingly connected with the body piece I0 at the portion I3 thereof are oppositely arranged levers I4, these having the outwardly bowed embracing portions I5 and the handles I6 respectively. The outwardly bowed portions I5 carry rubber tubular grips II so that when a container, such as a jar, is placed between the levers I4 and the latter are closed or moved toward each other the grip I 'I will firmly grasp the container as embraced by the outwardly bowed portions I5 and in this fashion by pressure being exerted on the handles I6 toward each other the container will be firmly held by said levers.

Carried by the piece I I is a bridge I8, the same having a medial upwardly bowed portion I9 which is connected for swinging movement through the pivot with the piece II. To one end of the bridge I 8 is connected, through the medium of the pivot 2|, one of a pair of opposed levers 22, these being formed with outwardly bowed portions 23 constituting jaws thereof and loosely connected by a link 24 at their inner ends. The other lever 22 carries a pivot 25 which plays loosely in a slot 26 in the other end of the bridge I8 and these jaw portions 23 of the levers are notched at 2l to assure a firm biting engagement when the jaw portions 23 embrace and clamp a top or cap 20 of the container. Thus it will be seen that by swinging the bridge I8 this cap or top can be removed or loosened upon the container. The levers 22 include the handle ends 28 corresponding to the handles I6 hereinbefore described.

By the swinging of the piece II upwardly and rearwardly the levers 22 will be separated in a vertical path from the levers I4 so that the latter can conveniently embrace a container and thereafter the levers 22 can be lowered to embrace the top or cap of the container for the loosening thereof from the said container as should be clearly obvious.

What is claimed is:

A device of the character described comprising a substantially U-shaped frame having side arms, one arm being longer than the other and hinged for swinging movements toward and away from the shorter arm, a pair of levers pivoted to the shorter arm and having outwardly bowed portions, a bridge pivoted at its center to the longer arm, a second pair of levers having outwardly bowed portions, links pivotally connecting together the second pair of levers, a pivot swngingly connecting one of the second pair of levers to one end of the bridge, means slidably and swngingly connecting the other lever of the second pair to the other end of said bridge, resilient grips carried by the mst-mentioned pair of levers at the outermost bowed portions, and grip teeth on the second pair of levers at the bowed portions, the levers having free ends extending in the same direction With respect to each other, the bridge carrying the second pair of levers being adapted for rotation in substantially a complete circle.
