By providingthe bowed;por-= tions -30 -in--the tubes 22 :the-interdeck space 1 between the. parts 20a, 20b -of-thebafile is utilized so that longer tubes 22 may be employed with resulting increase in the absorbing surfaces of these tubes. In Fig. 2 the part 20a of the bafiie is continued along the upper side of the inclined parts of tubes 22 paralleling the tubes I4 of the lower bank, so that portions of the baflle extend partially above and partially below these parts of the tubes 22. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the tubes 22 extend from headers 24, 26 paralleling tubes l2 to adjacent the part 200. of baiile and thence downward across the interdeck space at opposite sides of the part 20a. of the baflie,
In Figure 5, the tubes 22 are shown connected to the headers 39, 40 for the lower bank of tubes l 4 rather than those of the upper bank. However, this arrangement is deemed less advantageous than those illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 because the circulation of fluid might be impeded due to the fact that the temperature of steam and water in the downwardly extending portions 42 of the tubes would be higher than in upwardly extending portions 44.
It should be understood that in each of the various arrangements described above the tubes 22 may be continuous as shown in Figs. 2 and ,4 or may comprise two sections 22a and 22b, as in Figs. 1 and 3, connected at their inner ends to horizontally disposed header boxes 34. All oi the tubes 22a, 22b may be connected into a single header box 34 or the tubes may be divided into groups with the tubes of each group connected into a header box common thereto. Alternatively, individual header boxes may be provided for the sections 22a, 22b of each tube 22, as shown in Fig. 6A.
should be noted that in Fig. 3 the header box or boxes 34 are located between parts 20a, 20b of the baffie and form a part thereof.
It may be seen that the utilization of the lowermost horizontal row of tube openings in each header of the upper bank for the tubes supporting the bafile in accordance with the invention obviates the necessity of employing special headers at one end of each bank of tubes, as is ordinarily ,the case where Z-tubes provided for supporting the baffie are connected between the uppermost row of tube connections in the feed headers of the upper bank and the lowermost row of connections in the riser headers for the upper bank. That is to say, the invention dispenses with the use of special headers at one end of both banks, which have one more horizontal row of tube openings than in the headers at the opposite end of the respective banks. Nor is it necessary to plug horizontal rows of tube connections or openings in the feed headers for the lower bank and in the riser headers for the upper bank, as when using similar conventional headers at opposite ends of each bank in order to avoid the use of such special headers for connecting the tubes supporting the bailie. In short by deflecting intermediate portions of a row of generating tubes, connected into the lowermost horizontal rows of tube openings in the upper bank headers, from parallelism 7O with the other rows of tubes of the bank, in ac- .or an extra row of tubes for supporting the baffle in'addition to those ordinarily present in the banks .to the headers of one of said banks and each having an intermediate portion thereof deflected away from said one bank and extending along said vertically extending, interdeck portion of said bafiie structure for supporting the latter.
2. In a boiler having a pair of vertically spaced banks of inclined generating tubes, downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baifie structure extending through said upper bank, across the space between said banks and along part of the upper row of tubes in the lower bank to separate the first gas pass from the second; a row of generating tubes having end portions connected to the lower parts of the headers of said upper bank and extending therefrom parallel to the tubes, thereof toward said bafiie structure and having U-shaped intermedate portions extending away from said bank into the interdeck space and along portions of said baflle structure for supporting the latter.
3. In a boiler having a pair of vertically spaced banks of inclined generating tubes, downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baffle structure extending through said upper bank, across the space between said banks and along part of the upper row of tubes in the lower bank to separatethe first gas pass from the second; a row of generating tubes having end portions connected to the lower ends of the headers of said upper bank and having intermediate portions thereof bent away from said bank in substantially U- shape and extending along parts of said baffle structure for supporting the latter.
4. In a boiler having a pair of vertically spaced banks of inclined generating tubes, downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baffle structure extending through said upper bank,
across the space between said banks and along.
part of the upper row of tubes in the lower bank to separate the first gas pass from the second; a row of tubes connected at opposite ends to the headers of one of said banks and each having an intermediate portion thereof deflected away from said one bank and extending along a portion of said baflle structure for supporting the latter, the tubes of said bafile supporting row having two separate sections; and header means located adjacent said baffle for connecting said sections.
5. In a boiler having inclined generating tubes arranged in a pair of banks spaced vertically and providing an interdeck space; downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baffle structure for separating the first gas pass from the second comprising a part extending vertically between the tubes of the upper bank and across the interdeck space and another part inclined along the upper row of tubes of the lower bank; a row of generating tubes having their end portions connected to the headers of said upper bank and extending parallel to the tubes of the latter with intermediate portions thereof deflected away from said upper bank into the interdeck space and extending along the vertical and. inclined parts of said baiile structure for supporting the latter.
6. In a boiler having inclined generating tubes arranged in a pair of banks spaced vertically and providing an interdeck space; downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baflle structure for separating the first gas pass from the second comprising a part extending vertically between the tubes of the upper bank and across the interdeck space and another part inclined along the upper row of tubes of the lower bank; a row of generating tubes having end portions connected to the lower parts of the headers for said upper bank and having intermediate portions thereof spaced from the tubes of said upper bank and extending adjacent the lower bank along the inclined portion of said baffie for supporting the latter.

In a boiler having inclined generating tubes arranged in a pair of banks spaced vertically and providing an interdeck space; downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baifie structure for separating the first gas pass from the second comprising a part extending vertically between the tubes of the upper bank and across the interdeck space and another part inclined along the upper row of tubes of the lower bank; a row of generating tubes having their end portions connected to the headers of said upper bank and extending parallel to the tubes thereof toward said bafiie and having intermediate portions defiected away from said upper bank and extending along opposite sides of one part of said baffle structure for supporting the latter.
8. In a boiler having inclined generating tubes arranged in a pair of banks spaced vertically and providing an interdeck space, downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baflie structure for separating the first gas pass from the second comprising a part extending vertically between the tubes of the upper bank and across the interdeck space and another part inclined along the upper row of tubes of the lower bank; a row of generating tubes having their end portions connected to the headers of said upper bank and extending parallel to the tubes thereof toward said bafile and having intermediate portions deflected away from said upper bank and extending along opposite sides of the vertical portion of said baflie for supporting the latter.

In a boiler having inclined generating tubes arranged in a pair of banks spaced vertically and providing an interdeck space, downcomer and riser headers for said banks; a row of generating tubes having end portions connected to the lower parts of the headers for said upper bank and having intermediate portions thereof spaced from the tubes of said upper bank and extending along and adjacent portions of the tubes of the upper row of tubes of said lower bank; and a baffle structure including an inclined portion disposed above and extending along the uppermost row of tubes of the lower bank and extending partially above and partially below the said intermediate portions of said generating tubes to be supported thereby.
10. In a boiler having inclined generating tubes arranged in a pair of banks spaced vertically and providing an interdeck space, downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a bafiie structure for separating the first gas pass from the second comprising a part extending vertically between the tubes of the upper bank and across the interdeck space and another part inclined along the upper row of tubes of the lower bank; and a row of generating tubes connected at their ends to the headers for said upper bank and extending therefrom parallel to and closely adjacent the tubes of said bank for the greater portion of the length of said tubes, said row of tubes having intermediate portions extending across the interdeck space along opposite sides of the vertical part of said baflie structure for supporting the latter.

In a boiler having inclined generating tubes arranged in a pair of banks spaced vertically and providing an interdeck space, downcomer and riser headers for said banks, and a baflie structure for separating the first gas pass from the second comprising a part extending vertically between the tubes of the upper bank and across the interdeck space and another part inclined along the upper row of tubes of the lower bank; a row of generating tubes having their end portions connected to the headers of said upper bank and extending parallel to the tubes thereof toward said bafiie and having intermediate portions de-' flected away from said upper bank and extending along opposite sides of the vertical portion of said bafiie for supporting the latter, the tubes of said baflie supporting row having two separate sections; and header means located between the vertical and inclined parts of said baffle for connecting said tube sections.
