This invention relates to a water tube boiler in which the feed water heater or economizer is located within the boiler setting near the end of one bank of water tubes and above the end of another bank of water tubes. The invention will be understood from the description in connection with the accompanying drawing in which avertical section through an illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown. In the drawing reference character 2 indicates a longitudinal steam and water drum of a water tube boiler. Sets of headers 3, 4c, and 6 are connected to the steam and water drum 2, the headers 3 and 4 being downcomers and the headers 5 and 6 being upcomers. A cross mud drum 7 is connected by nipples 7 to the headers 3 and a cross mud drum 8 is connected by longer nipples 8' to the headers 4. A bank of inclined tubes 9 is connected to the headers 3 and 5 and a bank of shorter inclined tubes 10 is connected to the headers 4 .and 6. The upper ends of the headers 3 are connected to the steam and water drum 2 by means of the nipples 11, the upper ends of the headers 4 are connected to the steam and water drum by the nipples 12, the upper ends of the headers 5 are connected by the nipples 13 to the lower ends of the headers 6 and the upper ends of the headers 6 are connected by the nipples 14 to the steam and water drum 2.
'The banks of tubes 9rand 10 are separated from each other and a superheater 15 is located in the space between these banks. The superheater is connected to the steam space of the steam and water drum 2 and to the steam main in the usual manner (not shown). V
A baffie 16 extends along the upper side of the upper row of tubes in the bank!) from the headers 3 to the superheater, and a battle 17 extends from the baflie 16 along the superh'eater headers and thence across the bank of tubes 10. The bafile 17 is inclined so as to provide a decreasing cross sectional areav for the gas passes as the gases cross the tubes 10. A baflie 18 is provided from the upper ends of the headers 4 to the steam and water drum 2, this bafile being connected to the nipples 12. Passes are thus provided across the banks of tubes 9 and 10 from the furnace 19 as indicated by the arrows.
An economizer or feed waterheater 20 is located between the headers 4 and the side wall of the boiler and the gases after passing downwardly over the right hand end of the tubes 10 pass between the nipples '8" and thence upwardly through the economizer. This economizer may be of any of the usual wellknown type and the one shown comprises headers 21 connected to each other by U-tubes 22 across which tubes gases pass.
A feed water pipe 23 enters the lowest header 21 and the heated water passes from the uppermost of the headers 21 through the outlet pipes 24 to the steam and water drum 2 while the waste gases pass through the outlet 25 to a stack.
I claim;
1. In a water tubeboiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes connected to said drum having a plurality of gas passes thereacross, an economizer located beyond the ends of the tubes of one bank and abovethe ends of the tubes of the other bank, said econ- 7 omizer being connected to said drum and headers for one of said banks of tubes constituting a portion of a battle for the gas.
2. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes connected so to said drum, an economizer located beyond the ends of the tubes of one bank and above the ends of the tubes of the other bank and means to cause gas to pass a plurality of times across said tubes and thence upwardly across said economizer.
3. A water tube boiler having banks of inclined tubes of different lengths, an economizer located opposite the ends of the bank of tubes of shorter length, and means to cause gases to pass once across one bank and twice across another bank, and thence across said economizer.
4. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes connected to said drum having a plurality of gas passes thereacross, an economizer located beyond the ends of the tubes of one bank and above the ends of the tubes of the other bank, said econoinizer being connected to said drum and headers for one of said banks of tubes separating said economizer from said bank.
5. In a water tub boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes of different lengths connected to said drum, sets of headers at the ends of said tubes, means to provide a plurality of gas passes across some of said tubes, and an economizer located where another gas pass'would be across said tubes provided all of said tubes were of the same length, said economizer being connected to said drum.
6. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes connected at each end to said drum and an econoinizer located beyond the ends of the tubes of one bank and above the ends oi the tubes of the other bank, said economizer being connected to said drum.
7. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes connected at each end to said drum, the tubes in one bank bein longer than those of the other bank, and an economizer located beyond the ends of the tubes of one bank and above the ends of the tubes of the other bank, said econoinizer being connected to said drum.
8. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes connected at each end to said drum, having their upper ends terminating substantially in a single plane in alignment, and an economizer located beyond the ends of the tubes of one bank and above the ends of the tubes of the other bank, said economizer being connected to said drum. 7
9. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes one above the other connected at each end to said drum, the upper bank having a plurality of gas passes thereacross, and an economizer located beyond the ends of the tubesof one bank and above the ends of the tubes of the other bank, said economizer being connected to said drum.
10. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes connected at each end to said drum, and an econmizer located beyond the ends of the tubes of one bank and above the ends of the tubes of the other bank, said economizer being connected to said drum, the tubes of said last named bank being exposed to the furnace gases their full length.
11. In a water tube boiler, a steam and water drum, two banks of inclined tubes of different lengths connected to said drum, sets of headers at the opposite ends of said banks of tubes connected to said drum, means to provide a plurality of gas passes across some of said tubes, an economizer located where another gas pass would be across said tubes provided all of said tubes were of the same length, and a connection from the outlet of said economizer to said drum.
