Definitions

  • I employ so-called spinning rims.
  • the rims are conveyed from the spinning machine into the troughs, wherein the material is to be treated subsequently, not in an ungoverned manner, but in an exactly prescribed m manner, wherein care is taken that the rims remain in the previous mutual position.
  • the distance existing between, the. rims on the spinning machine is maintained during their conveyance and the rims areconveyed to the troughs by grav 15 ity and roll on their own circularedges, the rims of one machine being rolled into the trough in unison as a whole.
  • Each one machine has allotted to it one trough the length of which cor-v The rims ar-v responds to that of the machine.
  • the trough they are pressed against one of the end walls thereof by means of an end plate likewise provided in the trough, whereby'they are 30 packed against one another and against the trough.
  • the subsequent treatment of the filament may, then take place under pressure or in vacuo.
  • the washing treatmentunder pressure is of particular advantage.
  • the present process and appliance further afford the notable advantage that no fixinglmembers are required for the rimsas is the case in similar arrangements, although they rest in the trough with their cylindrical surface extending horizontally.
  • the rims may rest on the bottom of the trough by means of projecting flanges which protect the filament from damage.
  • the trough On that end against which the rims are pressed the trough is provided with a pipe connection throughwhich, in the case of the above-mentioned treatment under pressure, the treating liquids are supplied. The liquids penetrate through the filament coils and aredrained either through an overflow arranged on the upper portion of the trough or through a bottom valve.
  • the end plate is withdrawn whereupon the rims may be grasped mechanically or by hand on their 55 upper edges and lifted from the trough.
  • the intermediate packing rings are spread out from one another by means of a distance chain which can be expanded only to such anextent that the plates exactly come into the prescribed position.
  • Figure 2 is a cross section on line II-II of Figure 1,
  • Figures 3 and 4 are sections of modified troughs on reduced scale
  • FIGS 8 and 9 show the suspended packing rings and their mutual distances.
  • l denotes a trough which is of about the same length as the respective spinning machine and is situated in such a manner relatively to the latter, that the rims can be rolled directly thereinto.
  • the trough may be mounted stationarily on the ground or for rotation about a longitudinal axle-3, as illustrated in Figure 3. ,7
  • the cover 4 can be pressed against the rims l5 placed in the trough by means of a mechanism, Figures 1-4, which comprises a hand lever II mounted on a fixed transverse shaft l2, situated about at the level of the central axis of, and outside the trough (in Figure 6 this shaft for sake of clearness is shown as situated below the trough) and two cam slot segments [3 and I4 rigid with shaft l2, Figures 6 and '7, which are engaged by the rollers l and 8.
  • the cover 4 is fitted onits inner side with a packing ring N5 of rubber or the like. The same is the case with the intermediate rings l1. Cover 4 and rings I! press the rims against one another and thus pack them.
  • the rims l are constructed so as to withstand the packing pressure without being deformed. To this end the rims are strengthened on their base by annular ribs 21 projecting laterally on both sides. The intermediate rings ll therefore by their rubber packings press against these annular ribs 21 and not against the walls proper of the rims.
  • the intermediate rings H are suspended in the trough I by means of lateral arms I9, 20 which rest on the upper edge of the trough.
  • the arms I9, 20 are further connected with one another and with the cover 4 and the trough by chainlike links 2
  • the intermediate rings I! are drawn from one another to such an extent as admitted by the links 2
  • All rims [5 are rolled in unison from the spinning machine into the trough by means of suitable conveying means which are not represented for sake of clearness. Each rim drops into the space existing between the respective packing rings l1 onto longitudinal ribs 23, 24, Figures 2 and 6, made from rubber or the like and mounted on the bottom of the trough I. These ribs have perforations 28, Figure 1, to allow draining of the liquid from the trough.
  • the liquid intended for the treatment of the filament is supplied for example through a pipe 25, Figure 1, so as to arrive in the inner space of the rims, and penetrates through small holes provided in the bottom of the rims and through the spires of the filament.
  • the liquid collects on the bottom of the trough and is drained through an overflow 29 or bottom valve 26, Figure 1.
  • Process of handling artificial filaments after spinning which comprises winding the filaments within the peripheral grooves of a plurality of separate coaxially and closely arranged fellyshaped rims of considerably greater diameter than width, continuing the winding to a depth which leaves the outer surface of each package within the outer circumference of its rim, and then rolling the rims simultaneously in substantially their same relative positions into a treating tank.
  • Process of handling artificial filaments after spinning which comprises winding the filaments within the peripheral grooves of a plurality of separate coaxially and closely arranged fellyshaped rims of considerably greater diameter than width, continuing the winding to a depth which leaves the outer surface of each package within the outer circumference of its rim, then rolling the rims simultaneously in substantially their same relative positions into a treating tank, and then squeezing the group of rims axially to form a tight unit.
  • Apparatus for handling artificial filaments after spinning comprising a tank, a group of separate felly-shaped perforated rims of considerably greater diameter than width resting on their peripheries in said tank in horizontal axial alinement, the filaments being wound within the outwardly opening peripheral grooves of said rims without projecting beyond the edges of said grooves, means mounted on said tank for squeezing said group of rims axially to form a tight unit, and means for introducing a fluid into the hollow space within said unit.

  • Apparatus for handling artificial filaments after spinning comprising a tank, a group of separate telly-shaped perforated rims of considerably greater diameter than width resting on their peripheries in said tank in horizontal axial alinement, the filaments being wound within the outwardly opening peripheral grooves of said rims without projecting beyond the edges of said grooves, an end plate adapted to close the opening of one outermost rim of said group, means on said tank for moving said end plate to squeeze said group of rims against a cross wall of said tank to form a tight unit thereof, and means to introduce a fluid through said cross wall into the space within said unit.
  • Apparatus for handling artificial filaments after spinning comprising a tank; a set of packing rings; an end plate; means whereby said packing rings and end plate are mounted upon said tank so as to stand upright in parallel relation and so as to be movable axially; means interconnecting said end plate and said cross wall to permit a limited relative movement thereof, means on said packing rings engaged by said interconnecting means so that each packing ring is pulled apart from its neighbor as said end plate is moved outward from said cross wall; a set of felly-shaped rims adapted to fit into the spaces between said packing rings, between said end plate and the adjacent ring, and between said cross wall and the adjacent ring, the filaments being wound within the outwardly opening peripheral grooves of said rims; and means to draw said end plate toward said cross wall to squeeze all said elements into a tight hollow unit.
  • Apparatus for handling artificial filaments subsequent to spinning comprising a. set of tellyshaped perforated rims each adapted to have a filament wound into its outwardly facing peripheral groove, said rims having axially projecting flanges serving as packing and stiffening flanges, said rims being adapted to be squeezed together axially to form a tight hollow unit THEODOR GRAUER.
