The invention relates to improvements in sample and advertising files especially adapted for use for periodical purposes, and has for its primary object the provision of an improved device of the character indicated which. is capable of economical manufacture and highly efiicient in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the character indicated so constructed and arranged as to provide suitable space therein for the inclusion of samples.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the sample and advertising file embodying the invention;

Fig. 2, a bottom plan view of the same; and

Fig. 3, a partial, enlarged section taken substantially on line 33 of Fig. 2.

The embodiment of the invention as illustrated in the drawing comprises three sheets of cardboard material creased and folded to form central strips I0, II and i2 and side leaves l3, I4

and I5, respectively. These sheets are superposed upon each other and the central strips secured together by eyelets or hollow rivets [6 as indicated.

As will be noted, the central strip of each upper sheet is narrower than that of the next lower one thereby providing filing spaces between said leaves as clearly indicated in Fig. 3. The inner ends or heads of the rivets [6 are of widths equal to the width of the uppermost central strip so that said rivet heads positively hold the leaves l3 apart during use. Leaves are also provided with upwardly projecting index tabs I! at their free edges as shown.

The device thus provided is designed and intended for use for periodical purposes in the distribution and advertising of samples of paper. To 5 this end the samples of paper are included in the spaces between the leaves and the character of samples included in each space is indicated on the tabs IT. The sides of the leaves are adapted and arranged to be used for advertising purposes 10 applicable to the samples enclosed. It is designed and intended to issue and distribute the device periodically soas to keep the recipients fully informed as to current and new styles in samples of paper or other flat, sheet-like articles. 15

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to 20 be limited to the precise details disclosed. but would desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.

I claim: 25

A file made up of a plurality of sheets each folded to form a central strip and file leaves at each side thereof, said sheets being superposed and the central strips being secured together by rivet members passing therethrough to form a file 30 substantially in book form, the central strips of each upper sheet being enough narrower than that of the next lower, to provide filling spaces between said leaves, the widths of the inner ends of said rivets being equal to the width of the uppermost 35 central strip.
