Description

H. SANDNER. Scarf-Fastening.
vPatented June 18, I878.
INVENTOR $NESSES @Z ATTORNEYS MFEIERS, PHDTO-LITHDGRAPHER, WASHING ON. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY SANDNER, OE HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCARF-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,999, dated June 18, 1878 application filed May 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY SANDNER, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Scarf-Fastening, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of a scarf with my improved fastening, and Fig. 2 a rear elevation of the fastening detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
This invention is intended to furnish for scarfs of all kinds an improved fastening device, through which one end of the neck-band may be readily passed, but then firmly retained thereby when in proper position.
The invention consists of a spring-clamp that is secured into the body of the scarf, and made of two plates, of which one is pivoted and spring-acted, and provided with a projecting button, that is depressed from the back of the scarf, so as to withdraw the neck-band, which is inserted without obstruction by the clamp.
Referring to the drawing, A represents a scarf of any suitableshape and material, and B a spring-clamp that is attached in suitable manner into the body of the scarf, and constructed of a main plate, 0, and of a swinging and spring-acted rear plate, D. The main plate 0 supports the pivots of the back plate in bent-up ears or lugs a, the spring I) of the rear platebeing attached to the same, so as to bear against a cross-pin, d, and press on the rear plate, and keep the rear plate. in contact with the main plate. Vided at the upper end with a small button, 6, that extends through the rear part .of the scarf, so that by pressing upon the button by the thumb the rear plate is readily released from the neck-band, and the latter thereby withdrawn from the clamp.
When attaching the scarf to the neck, the neck-band is easily pushed through the clamp of the scarf, as the spring-plate of the same gives sufficiently for admitting its passage, but retains it firmly in position against backward motion by the clamp action of the springplate on the neck-band. The annoying loosen,- ing and detaching of the scarfs is thereby prevented, and a simple and reliable clamp for retaining the neck-bands obtained.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A scarf fastener or clamp consisting of a main or front plate, and of a pivoted and spring-acted rear plate having a button at the upper end, adapted to project at the back of the scarf, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
HENRY SANDNER.
