1 Claim.

This invention relates to hangers and its general object is to provide a relatively light hanger that is capable of supporting heavy objects such as pictures and the like in suspension with respect to a wall without damaging the latter during and after application, or fear of the hanger becoming displaced, dislodged or falling therefrom, due to the flat wall engaging surface of the body of the hanger and the angularity of the wall penetrating means thereof with respect thereto. A further object of the invention is to provide a light hanger for supporting heavy objects through the medium of a suspending means and which includes a body having a recess providing a hook to receive the suspending means, and the recess is shaped to prevent casual removal of the suspending means therefrom, yet the latter can be placed therein with very little effort.

Another object of the invention is to provide 20 a hanger of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely efficient in use and service.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination 25 and arrangement of the several parts, to be here inafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, reference 30 will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral l indicates the body of my hanger which as shown may be made into substantially rectangular shape, from a single block of material and includes a flat rear face for engaging a wall such as indicated by the letter A.

The body is provided with a relatively thick upper portion 2 having an inclined outer face 3 I 45 and a bore 4 extending at an angle therethrough for the purpose of receiving a wall penetrating means 5 such as a nail, brad or the like, with the result the means 5 is disposed at an angle with respect to the rear face of the body, as clearly 50 shown in Figure 2. It is of course understood that the means 5 is provided with a penetrating point and a head to limit the passage of the means through the bore.

The body is provided with a recess 6 forming the shank and tongue of a hook, the tongue being indicated by the reference numeral 1, and the recess in forming the tongue is shaped in curved formation to provide an overhanging portion 8 5 for the tongue, while the latter terminates in an inwardly inclined upper end 9 disposed in substantial parallelism with the lower face of the upper portion 2, to provide a relatively Wide passageway for the suspending means B of an ob- 10 ject to be supported by my hanger, such as a picture C, therefore it will be obvious that the suspending means can be easily and expeditiously disposed within the recess to be received by the hook, yet casual removal therefrom is prevented due to the overhanging portion 8.

It will be apparent that my hanger can be applied to any kind of Wall, but is primarily designed for walls having a plaster facing, as the fiat Wall engaging face of the body of the hanger and the angularity of the means 5 with respect thereto will allow the hanger to be used with such a wall without disfiguring or damaging the same, during or after application thereto, as when the hanger is removed, the hole caused by the pene- I trating means is so small that it cannot be readily seen.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it tobe understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A hanger comprising a body of generally rectangular outline formed from a single block of material and having a flat wall engaging rear face, an upper portion included in said body and 40 having an inclined front face and a bore extending at an angle therethrough, said body being recessed to provide a hook including a shank and a tongue, a portion of said tongue overhanging the bottom of the recess, said tongue terminating in an inclined surface arranged in substantial parallelism with the under surface of said upper portion to provide a rearwardly inclined passageway, and Wall penetrating means extending through the bore for disposal at an angle with respect to the rear face of the body.
