RAILROAD-CHAIR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THEoDonE KRAUsoi-r, of Susquehanna Depot, in the county of Susquehanna and State or" Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement on Railroad- Ohairs, called Krauschs Railroad Trans'- verse-lVedge Chair, of which the following is a full and exact description.

The improvement of the chair consists in its adaptation to, and the use of a system of transverse Wedging, by one or more Wedges or pieces of cast iron, Wrought iron, Wood, or any other metal or material, the use of Which is explained by the accompanying drawings and model.

C, is the chair; R, the rail With the joint J, on center of the Wedge IV, Whose surface is described by 8f, s, s, s, Which being driven transversely in its seat S, acts on the base line G, of the rail, pressing it against the lips Z, l, of the chair and thereby holding the rail firmly in its place, the chair to be of cast or Wrought iron or any other kind of metal, with or Without side pieces P, or other device for relieving the ends of the rails from abrasion or injury by receiving the tread of the Wheels While passing over the joints.

The chair with the improvement is intended ether to make the joint of rail bet-Ween or on the cross ties.

The adaptation of a chair to, and the use, of transverse ivedging as above described, or, by gibbs or, if in one, tivo, or more parts, by bands, or by Whatever other mode transverse Wedging may be accomplished.
