STEP MAT Filed June 28, 1935 amines June 16, was
uni-ran mm PAT N oFi-"io aesaicv some use Ellis a. Smith, Blanchard, re. a umes June as, ms, Serial No. asses 1 Claim. (cl. ass-so) vacuum cups serving as the medium for making fast the mat upon a step are built into the body of the mat and will assure a firm grip when the mat is tread upon and thereby holding the mat in proper relation to the step securing the same.
A further object of the invention is'the provision of a mat of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly re-'- 20 liable and eilicient in its operation, strong, durable, readily and easily applied to and removed from a step and inexpensive to manufacture.
with these and other'obiects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction,
25 combination and arrangement of parts as will. be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mat constructed in accordance with the invention. Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof. Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view through the mat.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the mat comprises a body 5 made from a sheet of rubber 5 material or composition material and is formed with a rounded downwardly directed toe edge 8 I while the upper tread surface of the mat isv corrugated as at 1 in the direction of the length of the mat. 10 Out from and countersunk partially in the body 5 through the bottom or under face thereof are the series of vacuum cups 3, these having-their free edges t protruded beyond the plane of the bottom face of the body 5 of the met.
In the use of the mat the same is applied upon a step and the cups 8 will by vacuum make secure the said. mat to the upper face of the step (not shown), the toe edge 8 of the mat being adapted to extend over the front edge of the step.
What is claimed is: A mat of the character described comprising a sheet-like substantially non- -porous resilient 2 body having pockets in one iface thereof and opening through the under side of the same, and vacuum cups within these pockets with the walls of said cups spaced from the walls of the pockets and having necks joining the said cups with the body centrally of the pockets with the tread ongaging edges of the cups extending below the entrances to the pockets.
