Patented June 2, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ClGARETTE HOLDER George J. Gailey, New Haven, Conn. Application October 31,1934, Serial No. 750,888
1 Claim. (01. 151-41) This invention seeks to provide a simple and attractive device whereby a cigar or cigarette may be carried by a smoker without causing any stains upon the fingers. The invention provides 5 a device for the stated purpose which may be veryeasily opened to admit a cigarette and after engaging with a cigarette be readily closed to firmly hold the same. The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing and will be herein after first fully described and then more particularly defined in the appended claim.
- In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved cigarette holder showing one manner of using the same.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the holder;
Y Figure 3 is a view at right angles to Figure 2 showing the jaws of the holder open.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail perspective view of one of the jaws.
In carrying out the present invention, there is provided a ring I which is adapted to encircle a finger of the user, as indicated in Figure 1. Intimately united with said ring at one. point thereof are resilient stems 2 which extend from the ring in the plane of the same and are formed at their free ends with arcua jaws 3 adapted to pass around a cigarette or same, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The jaws tween the ring i and the jaws 3 is a loop or collar.
6 of such diameter that it may fit about the stems 45 close to the ring I but cannot pass the jaws 3.
pushed across cigar and clasp the have mating prongs 4 extending therefrom and the match will be ignited. The prongs serve a dual function inner surfaces the stems 2 beso that, if it be it will cause the slid outwardly toward the jaws, stems to move toward each other and be firmly held in closed relation.
It will be readily noted that I have provided an exceedingly simple device whereby a cigar or cigarette may be carried by a smoker without soiling the fingers and without crushing thecigar or cigarette. With the jaws opened, as shown in Figure 3, the cigar or cigarette and the collar 6 then slid toward the tween them,
is inserted bejaws so that the cigarette I will be encircled and firmly held by amatch may have its extensions or prongs l engaged thereby and,
ignited so that the jaws.
head inserted between the the extensions,
the-smoker may apply the same As the jaws are closed so that it will be firmly if the match be drawn or it will be quickly to the cigar or cigarette. It will be understood that the device may be made in various sizes so as to hold either a cigar or upon the fingers or a finger made of any suitable material and device may be cigarette and also to fit of any person. The
will preferably be made of material which will claimed as new is:
A device of the finger ring, resilient ing from the ring and fixed thereto, upper free impart an ornamental appearance thereto. Having thus described the invention,
what is class described including a front and rear stems extendhaving their lower .ends
end portions of the stems .being bent outwardly in opposite directions to form bowed jaws adapted to encircle and hold a cigarette, said transversely of their outer ends jaws being disposed in a plane the finger ring and provided at with prongs having roughened to prevent relative transverse movement of the'ends when in clamped position,
said prongs being adapted to engage each other in closed position of the jaws for cooperating with the stems and bracing the jaws at opposite sides between the jaws, and
of a cigarette gripped means slidable on the jaws in closedrelation.
