Gailey ..24/2e0 x 2 Clains, 5 Drawing Figures FIG. 2
FIG 4 PAIENTED AUG 15 1912 INVENTOR. ALFRED M. JOHANSEN 1 SHIRT BUTTON ACCESSORY SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION My invention is adapted for use in inserting buttons on a shirt; as for example the collar button, properly in the corresponding button hole. To this end, I provide a wire like member formed into the shape of an elongated U, with the free ends having button receiving recesses. A slide manually movable along the member toward and away from the ends has a cover pointing toward the ends and adapted to overlie them when the slide is in its extreme forward position adjacent the ends.
In use, the ends engage a button; the slide is moved until the cap overlies the button whereby the member is locked 'to the button. The member is then pulled through a corresponding button hole, curved end'first, until the button is properly disposed in the hole. The slide is then moved away from the ends until the cap is moved to a position at which the button is exposed. The ends of the member can then be disengaged from the button whereby the member and slide can be easily removed.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my invention in use;
FIG. 2 is a front view of my invention in locking position;
FIG. 3 is a side view of my invention in unlocked position;
FIG. 4 is a rear view of my invention in unlocked position; and
FIG. 5 is a front view of my invention with the slide removed.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED Y EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-5, a length of spring wire is formed into an elongated U shaped member having a curved end 12 and two opposite free ends 14. The member adjacent each free end has button engaging or receiving recesses 16.
A flat side plate 18 has two parallel extensions 20 with bores through which the legs of the member extend whereby the plate can be manually slid between an extreme withdrawn (unlocking) position (as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4) adjacent the curved end and an extreme advanced (locking) position adjacent the free ends (as shown in FIG. 2).
The plate is connected by offset or shoulder 22 to a flat coplanar cap 24. When the plate is in locking position, the cap overlies the free ends; when the plate is in unlocking position, the cap is spaced from the free ends.
In use, with the slide withdran, the ends are placed in button engaging position about a button; the slide is advanced until the cap overlies the button which is then held; the end 12 is pulled through the corresponding button hole followed by the remainder of the member whereby the button is properly placed in the button hole; the slide is withdrawn; and the member is then disengaged from the button.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual sco e.
Having thus describe this invention, what 18 asserted as new is:
1. An accessory for releasably gripping and utilization in displacing a button through an associated buttonhole, said accessory comprising a wire-like member having the shape of an elongated U with one curved end and a pair of generally parallel free ends, said free ends including opposing recesses defining a button receiving recess therebetween, a slide mounted on said wire-like member for adjustable positioning therealong, said slide being elongated longitudinally of said wire-like member and including an elongated flat plate extending lengthwise thereof having opposite side longitudinal tubular members supported therefrom and laterally displaced outwardly to one side of said plate, said ends, at least in the portions thereof adjacent said curved end being slidingly received through said tubular member, said plate, at the end thereof remote from said curved end including a lengthwise laterally offset and outwardly displaced panel-like cap disposed to said other side of said plate and adapted to overlie a button received in said recess when said slide is shifted away from said curved end, said slide and wire-like member being free of portions projecting sharply outwardly therefrom and being of a generally constant over-all cross-sectional shape so as to enable said wire-like member, with said slide thereon, to be passed through a buttonhole. I v 2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said free ends define longitudinally spaced pairs of opposite side recesses together defining a plurality of longitudinally spaced recesses between said ends.

Claims (2)

1. An accessory for releasably gripping and utilization in displacing a button through an associated buttonhole, said accessory comprising a wire-like member having the shape of an elongated U with one curved end and a pair of generally parallel free ends, said free ends including opposing recesses defining a button receiving recess therebetween, a slide mounted on saId wire-like member for adjustable positioning therealong, said slide being elongated longitudinally of said wire-like member and including an elongated flat plate extending lengthwise thereof having opposite side longitudinal tubular members supported therefrom and laterally displaced outwardly to one side of said plate, said ends, at least in the portions thereof adjacent said curved end being slidingly received through said tubular member, said plate, at the end thereof remote from said curved end including a lengthwise laterally offset and outwardly displaced panel-like cap disposed to said other side of said plate and adapted to overlie a button received in said recess when said slide is shifted away from said curved end, said slide and wirelike member being free of portions projecting sharply outwardly therefrom and being of a generally constant over-all crosssectional shape so as to enable said wire-like member, with said slide thereon, to be passed through a buttonhole.
2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said free ends define longitudinally spaced pairs of opposite side recesses together defining a plurality of longitudinally spaced recesses between said ends.
