10 Claims. (Cl. 229 21) The object or. my invention is to form a cup out oi a single piece of paper or similar substance having plaited or folded sides, with preferably a round rolled edge on the top to stiflen the top and a turned-in and raised bottom to stlflen the bottom. I am aware that single piece paper. cups are already provided with stiflened rims but with Cups of this type when filled with tom having no stiifness whatsoever unless unnecessarily heavy paper is used. Wlth a turnedin and raised bottom a remarkably greater stillness is given the whole cup with but little greater expense oi paper.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein- F'lg. 1 is a cross-section 01' my improved cup and Fig. 2 an elevation of the same.
Throughout the views of the drawing, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
My improved cup I is made from a single piece of paper or equivalent material provided with plaited or folded sides 2 of any oi the conventional kind. On the top 3 is shown a rolled rim I or the conventional type to stiifen the cup at the top. At the lowest point 5 of the cup the bottom 6 is elevated or raised above the lower edge within the side walls of the cup-forming sides I closely hugging the platted sides 2, giving the lower end of the cup a double thickness of material. This bottom 6 is furthermore stiffened by a depression or indentation 8.
In addition a bead a is provided to stiflen'the base of the cup. V
This cup may or may not be parafllned as its application may require but in all cases will the raised bottom prove a great improvement and make the cup more valuable.
My invention, of course is not confined to cups having rolled rims. It. 'may be employed on any cup" or container made from a single sheet of paper. 1 What I claim is:
I 1. A paper cup made from a single sheet of paper, the lowergend of which has a rolled bead substantially circular in cross-section tor stifiening the same.
2. A paper cup made from a single sheet of paper having a raised bottom and a rolled bead substantially circular in cross-section at the bottom i'or stifl'ening the same. L
3. A paper cup formed 43mm 9. single sheet of paper having the lower edge of the side walls rolled inwardly and upwardly and thence toward the side walls of the cup to provide a stiflening bead at the circumferential edge of the base of 4. A paper cup formed from a single sheet of paper having the lower edge 01 the side walls rolled inwardly and upwardly and thence toward the side walls of the cup to providea stiffening bead at the circumferential edge of the base or the cup and a bottom for the cup raised above the bead to form a narrow annular portion ex tending parallel to and closely hugging the side walls of the cup for strengthening and stifiening the base of the cup. I
5. A paper cup formed from a single sheet of paper having the lower edge of ,the side walls rolled to provide a stiffening bead substantially circular in cross section at the circumferential edge at the base of the cup and having the bottom of the cup indentured to stiffen the same.
6. A paper cup formed from a single sheet of paper having pleated side walls with the lower edge of the side walls rolled inwardly and upwardly to provide a stiflening bead at the circumierential edgeat the base of the cup and a bottom for the cup raised above the bead and forming a-narrow annular portion extending parailel to and closely hugging the side walls of the cup for strengthening and stiffening the base oi the cup, said bottom also having its central portion indentured for further strengthening and stiilening the same. i
7. A paper cup iormedjfrom a single sheet of paper and having seamless pleated side-walls and having its bottom formed continuously with the side walls and raised above the lower edge of the side-walls to form an annular wall of a double thickness of material at the base of the cup for strengthening and stiffening the same.
8. A paper cup formed from a single sheet of paper and having seamless pleated side-walls and and having at the base thereof a rolled bead formed continuously with the side walls and substantially circular in cross-section for stiffening the base of the cup.
10. A paper cup formed from a single sheet of paper and having seamless pleated side walls and having at the base thereof a rolled bead formed continuously with the side walls and substantially circular in cross-section for stiiiening the base of the cup, and a bottom raised above the bead and forming a narrow annular portion extending parallel to and closely hugging the side walls of the. cup for further stiil'ening the base ot the cup.
