J. M. STEWART. Game-Apparatus.
Patented May 14,1878" INVENTOR ATTORNEYS WITNESSES Mag Z6 N. PETERS, PHOTO-UTMQGRAFNER, WASHINGTON, Dv C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JAMES M. STEWART, OF FRANKLIN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,671, dated May 14, 1878; application filed March 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. STEWART, of Franklin, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Toy Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved game apparatus. Fig.2 is a transverse section taken on line as w in Fig. 1 Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line y y in Fig. 1. My invention relates to an improved toy game apparatus for playing a game which I have denominated bassino, and it consists in an inclined board surrounded on three sides by cushions, and joined on the fourth side to the open side of a horizontal box, on the bottom of which there is a triangular diagram, upon which is set the pins used in carrying out the game, and in which there are recesses for receiving the.balls after being returned from the inclined board. It also consists in other details, which will be hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the drawing, A is an inclined board, supported by the leg or standard b, and
'l surrounded by a cushion, c, which is elevated a small distance above the upper surface of the board in position to receive the balls as they are projected by the mace d, used in carrying out the game.
The inclined board A is joined to a box, B, which is a little wider than the board, and forms with it such an angle that while the board A is in an inclined position the box B will be horizontal.
In the bottom of the box B there are two cavities or recesses, e f, for receiving the balls as they are returned from the inclined board A, and between the two cavities a triangular block, g, is secured for receiving two of the pins h, bassino and the king. Between the cavities e f and the inclined board A there is a diagram, O, on the bottom of the box B.
The said diagram is composed of small triangles combined in a large triangle. Upon the apices of the small triangles the pins hare placed Upon each side of the diagram there are spots 2', for locating the balls j, used in playing the game, and upon the inner surface of the box B, opposite the inclined board, there are cushioned spots 70, for receiving the balls as they descend from the inclosed board A.
The game consists in propelling the ball up the inclined board by a push or a blow from the mace and allowing it to return so as to knock down one or more of the pins h.
The scoring may be done in several ways, and the game may be varied to accommodate one or several players.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut-- The inclined board A and the box B, having the diagram 0, recesses e f, and elevated triangular piece g, in combination, for playing a game with pins and balls, as herein shown and described.
