2 Claims.
This invention appertains to crushers of the type particularly adapted for crushing rock and other solid substances.
One of the primary objects of my invention is the provision of a crusher embodying stationary jaws at the opposite ends thereof, and swinging jaws arranged in facing relation to the stationary jaws, with power means for alternately moving the swinging jaws toward and away from the stationary jaws so as to effectively bring about the crushing of material at each end of the machine.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a double unit crusher so constructed as to crush large pieces of rock at one end thereof, and small pieces of rock at the other end thereof, whereby rocks of a larger size than desired falling from the first crushing means can be conveyed to the opposite end of the machine and recrushed to the desired smaller size.
Another important object of my invention is the provision of novel means for operating the moving jaws of the double unit crusher from a single power-driven cam shaft, in such a manner that when one jaw is being moved to a crushing position, the other jaw is being withdrawn from its operative position so that the shaft will not be subjected to undue stress, and whereby the shaft is under a constant uniform load.
A further object of my invention is the provision of novel means for supporting the moving jaws, and novel means for operating the moving jaws, whereby not only will great crushing power be exerted by said jaws, but whereby said jaws will be given a compound movement toward and away from the stationary jaws, and longitudinally of said stationary jaws, so that the rock will be effectively crushed.
A further salient object of my invention is the provision of a double unit rock crusher including a frame rotatably supporting a cam shaft having a main power jaw rockably mounted on the cam portion of the shaft, and power beams or links rockably mounted on the cam portion of the shaft, the beams being rockably supported intermediate their ends on a swinging Samson post or link, and a supplemental crushing jaw rockably supported by the beams, whereby to bring about the alternate moving of the jaws to a crushing position.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a double unit crusher of the above character, which will be durable and efficient in use, one that will be simple and easy to manufacture,
and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and formation of parts, as will be 5 hereinafter more specifically described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings:

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter A generally indicates the improved crusher, which comprises a suitable supporting frame 5. 20 This frame 5 may include longitudinally extending spaced, parallel frame plates 6, which form the side walls of the machine. These side frame plates are held in their proper spaced position by transversely extending tie rods or bolts on 25 which are placed spacing sleeves 8, the ends of which engage the frame plates.
A stationary crushing jaw 9 is arranged at one end of the machine, and this jaw is secured in place in any desired manner, such as by the 30 use of angle bars Ill. The angle bars iii are bolted respectively to the frame plate 6 and the jaw 9. As shown, the jaw 9 extends downwardly and inwardly at an angle, for a purpose which will be later set forth. Arranged at the opposite 35 end of the machine is a transversely extending supplemental stationary crushing jaw M. This jaw H can also be secured to the side plates by means of angle bars l2. As clearly shown in Figure 2, the jaw ll also extends downwardly 40 and inwardly at an angle.
Rotatably mounted in suitable anti-frictional bearings carried by the side plates 6 is the main cam shaft I 3. The ends of the shaft extend beyond the frame plates, and have keyed or other- 45' Arranged on each side of the jaw sleeve l6 are parallel links l8, which form in effect a walking beam. The links l8 rotatably receive the cam portions II of the shaft, and thus the links are operated in unison with the main crushing jaw H3. The ends of the links l8 remote from the cam shaft I! receive and support a transversely extending shaft bearing l9, on which is rockably mounted the sleeve 29 of the supplemental swinging crushing jaw 2|. The swinging jaw 2| is arranged in facing relation with the supplemental stationary jaw At a point intermediate their ends the links |8 support the transversely extending shaft 22, and this shaft is rockably supported by the upper end of the swinging Samson post or supporting link a 23. It is to be noted that the shaft 22 is nearer the shaft I9 than the cam shaft I3. The lower end of the swinging Samson post or link 23 is rockably mounted on a transversely extending supporting shaft 24, the ends of which are firmly anchored to the frame plates 6.
Novel means is provided for rockably supporting the lower ends of the swinging jaws l5 and 5 2|, and thus I provide a swinging toggle plate 25 for the jaw I5, and a swinging toggle plate 26 for the jaw 2|. The inner ends of the toggle plates 25 and 2B are rockably mounted on cross rods 21 and 28 rigidly secured tothe side plates 6. The outer ends of the toggle plates are received within sockets 29 and 30 carried respectively by the rear faces of the jaws l5 and 2|. The toggle plates 25 and 26 extend downwardly and outwardly toward the jaws I5 and 2|, and
-form with said jaws a toggle construction.
Springs 3| and 32 are provided respectively for the jaws I5 and 2|, and these springs function to normally hold the lower ends of the jaws l5 and 2| away from the stationary jaws 9 and |2, and up against the toggle plates 25 and 26. These springs 3| and 32 are of the contractile coil spring type, and have their outer ends secured to the lower ends of the jaws l5 and 2|, and their inner ends to a cross bar 33, or the like, forming a rigid part of the frame 5. Obviously tensioning means can be provided for these springs without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention.
It is to be also understood at this point that the drawings are of a diagrammatic nature, and merely illustrate the working principles of my invention. In actual practice the machine will be provided with the usual refinements, such as roller bearings and the like for moving parts, and removable wear faces of the desired shape for the facing portions of the jaws 9 and I5, and the jaws l2 and 2|.
By referring to the drawings it will be noted that the jaw 2| is arranged closer to its stationary jaw than the jaw l5 to its stationary jaw 9, and consequently the jaws 2| and I I are adapted to crush rock to a finer degree than the jaws 9 and |5. In actual practice, large rock is placed between the jaws 9 and I5, and as the. crushed rock falls from these jaws, the same is screened, and the rock remaining on the screen is placed between the jaws 2| and H, and re-crushed to the desired fineness.
Attention is now directed to the novel operation of the movable jaws. During rotation of the cam shaft I3, the cam portion thereof ac- 5 tuates the jaw [5 in a path having a compound movement. That is, the jaw I5 is moved toward and away from the jaw 9, and also longitudinally of the jaw 9. This is not only brought about by the cam portion H, but also by the toggle plate 10 V 25, which allows the lower end of the shaft to have a swinging movement. Synchronous with the operation of the jaw l5, the links l8 are actuated by the cam portion H of the shaft l3. Due tothe swinging link 23 the ends of the links 15 i8, which support the jaw 2|, will not only have a rocking movement up and down, but also a swinging movement b-ack and forth. This movement is enhanced by the swinging toggle plate 26, and thus the jaw 2| is moved toward and away iii)- from the jaw II, and also longitudinally of the jaw The action of the jaws l5 and 2| give an ideal crushing action on the rock, and due to my transmission of power, great force is exerted by the jaws I5 and 2|. :i'
From the foregoing description is can be seen that I have provided a double unit crusher of exceptionally simple and durable character,
which will expedite the handling and crushing of rock to the desired fineness, 1
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention, but what I claim as new is:
1. A double unit rock crusher comprising a frame, a power-driven cam shaft rotatably supported by said frame, rock crushing means located at each end of the frame, each of said rock crushing means including a stationary jaw and a movable jaw, swinging links rockably supporting the lower ends of the movable jaws, a,
sleeve on the upper end of one of said movable jaws rotatably mounted on the cam portion of the shaft, a rock beam supported intermediate its ends, means rockably connecting the rock beam to the upper end of the other movable jaw, 45
and a bearing on the opposite end of the rock beam rotatably receiving the cam portion of the cam shaft.
2. A double unit rock crusher comprising a irame, a drive cam shaft rotatably supported by 1 the frame, rock crushing means mounted at each end of the frame, each of said rock crushing means including a stationary jaw and a movable jaw, a swinging rock link, a rock link rockably mounted intermediate its ends on the swinging M3 rock beam, means rocka'bly connecting the upper end of one movable jaw to one end of the rock beam, means including rock plates supporting the lower ends of the movable jaws, and a bearing sleeve on one movable jaw rotatably receiving the cam portion of the cam shaft, and said rock beam having a bearing portion also receiving the cam portion of said cam shaft.
