My invention relates to brooch assemblage.

More particularly, my invention is directed to a brooch assemblage comprising a brooch base member provided with pin or equivalent means for securement to the material of a garment, such brooch assemblage comprising a set, usually a pair, of clip members, each clip member comprising a clip back member upon which the ornament design is mounted and a clip base member hinged- 1y related to its associated clip back member.

Embodiments of my invention may be utilized as a brooch assemblage, that is, the clip members optionally may be assembled with the brooch base member as a unit or any clip member, singly or plurally, may be disassociated from the brooch base member and worn individually or as a set.

The present invention is most particularly directed to a brooch base member comprising spaced extensions respectively provided with looking recesses respectively cooperating with lugs or equivalent carried by the individual clip members, which lugs are lodged and maintained lodged in looking relation to the locking recesses by the resilient means of the individual clip members.

My brooch base member comprises, in preferred form, a body formed of a bar portion and a thereto transversely extending portion, to which latter extensions, usually a pair of extensions for each clip member, such extensions being provided with looking recesses and serving to receive and securely retain the clip members in assembled positions.

Further features and objects of the invention will be more fully understood from the following detail description and the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a two-clip type of brooch adapted to embody my invention.

Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of Fig. l, of the assemblage on the enlarged scale.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is an exploded view in perspective, illustrating a manner of assemblageof a brooch base member and a. clip base membefiand clip back member, pursuant to my invention.\

Referring to the drawing, Fig. lillustrates a two-clip type of brooch ID, the pair of indicated clips II, I 2, being adapted to be mounted upon an assembly brooch base member. Ornamentation of the respective clips is optional, the individual ornamentive design of the clips ll, l2, 4

being respectively mounted upon appropriate parts described more fully hereinafter, to afford ready secured assembly of the'respective members relative to the brooch base member, and to afford ready disassembly of the clip members individually to permit the same to be worn by the user either individually or as a pair or set. 5 Therefore, the particular ornamentation design or designs indicated in the drawing serve purely for illustrative purposes.

The brooch assembly may be secured to the material of a garment of the wearer in any suitable way, usually by means of a safety pin, indicated at 3, appropriately mounted as by means of a hinge member l3a and a suitable safety catch l3b.

Pursuant to the present invention, the brooch base member, indicated generally at l4, comprises a body portion essentially a bar and transversely extending portion, to which is secured, advantageously integral therewith, extension means in number and arrangement corresponding to the number of the clip members. In the instanced illustration of two clip members ll, l2, two such extension means are provided and, as shown, in the form of a pair of extensions Mb, Me, for each clip member. As shown, the extension Mb includes a convergently tapered terminal portion Md, extending preferably downwardly as viewed in Figs. 2 and 4, the purpose of which appears more fully hereinafter. The extension l4b, as shown, further comprises a recess Me serving as a locking recess, as will appear. The'extension I40, as shown, includes a free terminal portion l4) tapering and extending in the direction corresponding to the free terminal portion Md of the extension Nb, and also a lock- 5 ing recess Hg. The stated portions of the brooch base member M are readily produced by blanking and forming, of suitable material, advantageously metal.

Cooperating with the stated construction of 40 the brooch base member, each clip member comprises a clip base member,'indicated generally at l5 and as clip back member, indicated generally at l6. Each clip base member l5 comprises, in essentials, a body portion 15a, an upstanding element or portion l5b, and opposedly disposed extensions I50, and hinge means such as the upstanding apertured hinge lugs l5d. The ornamentation or design is secured, as by soldering, welding, etc., to the clip base member l5.

Each clip back member Hi comprises, in essentials, a body portion Ilia; further, locking lugs l6b opposedly related to one another and extending in direction and spacially related to one another in coordination with the stated locking re- 55 cesses Me, My, as will appear. Each clip back member I6 further comprises resilient means cooperating with the stated upstanding element or part I5b, advantageously had by saw-cutting, blanking, etc., kerfs as indicated in I60. Each clip back member l6 further comprises pointed elements or parts Hid, for engaging the material of a garment or the like, when the clip is disassociated from the brooch base member I 4 and worn individually or as a pair or set. The stated kerf, or equivalent resiliency provided means, affords dually the central tongue resilient portion I6 a pair of pintle-provided elements l6e for association with the stated apertured hinge ears [5d, l5d, the pintles thereof being inserted relative to the apertures of the hinge lugs I511, I511, re-

spectively by pressing the pintle-provided elements I6e, l6e, toward one another and releasing upon register of the respective pintles in the respective apertures of the hinge ears I512, I5d.

The assembly of the respective clip members relative to the brooch base member, as now appears, is had by passing the extensions Mb, No, respectively toward and uponthe upper faces, see Fig. 4, the continuation of such movement causing the respective lugs l6b to ride upon the arcuate terminals 14d, Hf, until the stated lugs l6b, [5b, are received and lodged within the locking recesses He, Hg. The assembly of the clip members ll, I2, upon the brooch base member [4 is shown in rear elevation in Fig. 2. In Fig. 3, the clip member I2 is shown in assembly with and upon its pair of associated extensions Mb, Mc. Fig. 3 illustrates also an inter-, mediate stage of association and likewise disassociation of the "clip member ll relative to its associated parts of the brooch base member I. To disassociate an assembled clip member from the brooch base member, its clip back member is grasped and force applied, counter to the stated means of the clip member spring to displace its locking lugs Nib, lBb out of engagement with the associated locking recesses Me, My.

I claim:

1. In a brooch assemblage, the combination of I x a plurality of clip members, each clip member comprising a resiliently related clip base member and a clip back member, and a brooch base member comprising a bar-like element, a there; to transversely extending element, and a pair of extensions connected to said transversely ex-" tending element, said pair of extensions being provided with looking recesses cooperating with parts of associated clip members aforesaid.

In a brooch assemblage, the combination of a plurality of clip members, each clip member" comprising a resiliently related clip base member and a clip back member, and a brooch base member comprising a bar-like element, a thereto transversely centrally extending element, and a pair of extensions connected to said transversely extending element, said pair of extensions being,

-a plurality of clip members, each clip member comprising a resiliently related clip base member and a clip back member, and a brooch base member comprising a bar-like element, a thereto transversely extending element, and a pair of extensions connected to said transversely extending element, said pair of extensions being provided with locking recesses cooperating with parts of associated clip members aforesaid, said extensions having flaring terminal portions.

5. In a brooch assemblage, the combination of a plurality of clip members, each clip member comprising a resiliently related clip base member and a clip back member, one of said related members carrying locking means, and a brooch base member comprising a bar-like element, a thereto transversely extending element, and a pair of extensions connected to said transversely extending element, said pair of extensions being provided with looking recesses cooperating with said locking means of its associated clip mem'- ber.

6. In a brooch assemblage, the combination of a plurality of clip members, each clip member comprising a resiliently related clip base member and a clip back member, one of said related members carrying locking means, and a brooch base member comprising a bar-like element, a thereto transversely extending element, and a pair of extensions connected to said transversely extending element, said pair of extensions being provided with looking recesses cooperating with said locking means of its associated clip member, said extensions having flaring tapering terminals.

7. In a broochassemblage, the combination of a plurality of clip members, each clip member comprising a resiliently related clip base member and a clip back member, resiliently aranged hinge means interconnecting said clip base-member and said clip back member, and a brooch base member comprising a bar-like element, a thereto transversely extending element, and a pairof extensions connected to said transversely extending element, said pair of extensions being provided with locking recesses cooperating with parts of associated clip members aforesaid.
