Description
March 3, 1936. A. A. VUCCINO ASH TRAY Filed Feb. 21, 1935 awe/WM MM a. Vm i/ w Patented Mar. 3, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT oF'FrcE.
ASH TRAY Albert A. Vuccino, New York, N. Y. Application February 21, 1935,.Serial No. 1.632
This invention relates to ash trays.
The -main object of the invention is to construct a container for receiving cigar and cigarette ashes and provided with means for extinguishing the lighted cigar or cigarettes.
Another object of the invention is to have the extinguishing medium in the form of a dampened sponge.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a handle for lifting the device and a' .set of cups attached to said handle for holding I the lighted cigars or cigarettes.
Other objects will appear as the disclosure 5 progresses. The drawing is intended to merely indicate a possible embodiment of the invention. It is obvious that the actual needs of manufacture may necessitate certain mechanical changes. It is therefore not intended to limit the disclosure to the embodiment illustrated but rather to define such limits in the appended claims. For a more general understandingoi the invention attention is called to the drawing in which Figure 1 is a top view of the ash tray. 25 Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring now' to the drawing in detail, numeral l designates the bodyof the .ash tray, 2 the cover and 3 the handle. The body is cir- 30 cular in shape and is provided with an inner circularwall 4 forming a chamber 5 to hold a ring-like sponge 6. The chamber 5 is partly filled with water to keep the sponge moist. The cover is formed with downwardly bent flanges I which fit over the body and inner wall 4. Cut
85 in the top 8 of the cover are holes 9 for exposing the sponge so that the lighted end cit the cigar or cigarette can pass through said holes and Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure l. I
1 Claim. 131-51) come in contact with the moist sponge 6 for the purpose of extinguishing the light.
The handle 3 is semi-circular in shape extends above the cover and is attached at the ends to the lower portion of the wall 4. Atthe top of 5 the handle are two cups ill for holding lighted cigars or cigarettes. The central chamber II for holding the ashes is provided with rounded corners I2 so that it can be easily cleaned.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a 10 simple, eflicient, compact and neat appearing device for receiving the ashes of cigars or cigarettes and for extinguishing the lighted ends thereof. The device can be carried around by the handle 3, said handle also serving as a support for the trays ill for holding the cigars and cigarettes. The body 01! the device can be circular or oval in shape.
Having described my invention, I claim:
In a device of the class ,described, a circular base plate, a circular body portion consisting of inner and outer vertical walls arranged at right angles to said base plate, said vertical walls and said base plate forming a hollow ring-like chamher for holding a sponge, a cover for said chamber having 'a series of holes through the top face and provided with downwardly bent inner and outer flanges, the inner wall of said circular body portion and said base plate providing a central chamber to receive ashes, the bottom of said chamber being rounded, and a curved handle having its ends attached to the inside of the innerwall of said central chamber and below the flange of said cover, said handle extending above the top of said cover.
. ALBERT A. vocomo.
