IMPROVEMENT IN SHOE-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,050, dated April 30, 1878; application filed February 5, 1878.
10 all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. KEAN, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Blacking-Brush, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents a top view, and Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation, of my improved blacking-brush. Fig. 3 is across-section, that shows the flanges of washer e and its relative position to the knife.
The invention relates to an improved blackin g-brush; and consists of a sliding scrapingknife, guided along the head of the brush, parallel to the handle of the same, and set in a forward-extended or drawn-back position by a suitable thumb-screw.
In the drawings, A represents a blackingbrush of the customary construction, and B a scraping-knife, that slides, by a longitudinal center-slot, a, along a fixed screw-bolt, b, being clamped tightly to the head of the brush by a thumb-nut, d.
The knife is guided parallel to the handle 0 of the brush in guide-plate or washer e, and moved forward or back, so as to project beyond the front end of the brush-head, or be drawn back over the same, a turned-up shoulder or finger-rest, f, at the rear end of the same, serving for sliding the same into either position.
The front end of the knife is preferably curved or inclined to a point for more convenient use, and so as to correspond to the rounded-off shape of the brush-head.
The scraping-knife is readily adjusted, and securely clamped to the brush-head in either position by the thumb-screw, and forms a convenient and time-saving attachment to the common blacking-brush.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improvement in blacking-brushes,
the flanged plate 6, jointly with the screw for guiding and clamping the cutter B, as shown and described.
FRANK H. KEAN. Witnesses:
