Description
SAVINGS BANK ATTACHMENT Filed May s, 1954 JUA/ 7u/@ragen 19/Vy j 60065772602 Patented Jan. 21, 1936 u.Nr-rs STATE-s- SAVINGS BANK ATTACHDIENT Harry S. Goodman, Chicago, Ill., assigner to A JeromeB. Aronsom-Chicagoylll.
Application, May 3, 1934,y Seria-l No. 723,628y
-5 claims. (ci. rc1- 1621A Vinvention relates to attachments for savings banks and more particularly to a novel attachment for a savings bank of book form which can be readily applied to and removed from the banks so that a salesman can demonstrate the device on any one of a number of banks.
My attachmentV contemplates the provision of a scale for calculating the results obtained by saving a definite amount per day, although of course, the particular details of the scale compilations may be varied to t any particular case.
I will describe the preferred form of my in- Vvention by reference to the accompanying drawing wherein- Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the device applied to a book bank;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line `2--2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 shows a modified form of attachment.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, the book bank is indicated by the numeral 5 and my attachment is indicated generally by the numeral 6. Book banks of this character are really metal containers made to imitate a book in appearance and are well known on the market at the present time.
It will be noted that in these book banks, the side edges such as 1 and 8 project beyond the end portions 9 and I0 which correspond to the edges of the leaves in the book. My attachment 6 consists of a sheet of metal which has the side edges doubled over as indicated at II and I2 to form a channel receiving the slide I3 and guiding it at both edges. l
Behind the slides I3 there is mounted the chart or scale I4 which is held in place by the slide and by the means such as I5 and I6 cooperating with the slide. Obviously, of course, this chart I4 maybe otherwise secured, but the means I5 and I6 preferably should extend out far enough to pre'- vent the slide I3 from escaping at the ends of the channels II and I2. The ends of the metal strip are bent over as indicated at I1 at the bottom and I8 at the top. The portion I1 `is substantially longer than the portion I8r and is curved outwardly as indicated at I9, while the portion I8 is hooked over rather sharply so as to form a hook for receiving the edge 1 of the bank. The attachment is applied in the following fashion:
First, the hook I8 is hooked over the top edge 1, and then the entire attachment is moved toward the side of the bank so as to cause the tip I9 to spring over the lower edge 8 of the bank and thus bring the member I1 over this lower edge under tension sufficient to hold the attachment ingposiftion while the slide: andthe .chartior scale.y arebeingrused ordemonstrated. When itis desired to remove the attachment, it is only necessary to pull outwardly on the attachment at the bottom thereof, and the member I1 will slide off the lower edge of the bank.
The slide I3 is slotted as indicated at V20 to permit reading the numbers on the chart as the slot is moved up or down.
In the modied form of the invention shown in Fig. 4, the plate 6 has the end portions I1 and I8 like the preferred form, but the slide I3' instead of being guided in grooves as in the main form is provided withthe bent-over side portions 2| and 22 which fit over the side edges of plate 6. The remainder of the parts may be the same as in Figs. 1-3. Thus it is evident that the slide I3' may be adjusted lengthwise of plate 6 in the same manner as slide I3 is adjusted on plate 6.
Having thus described one specific form of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An information giving attachment for savings bank containers and the like comprising a thin plate having two opposite side edges formed with grooves opening toward each other, the surface between said grooves having a chart of information thereon, a slide having portions fitting in said grooves to guide the slide in movement and having a transverse slot therein for facilitating reading of the chart information, said plate having clip means for temporarily fastening the plate to the containers, said clip means comprising integral portions of said plate at opposite ends thereof bent over to snap onto the edges of the containers.
2. An information giving attachment for savings bank containers and the like comprising a thin plate having two opposite side edges formed with grooves opening toward each other, the surface between said grooves having a chart of information thereon, a slide having portions fitting in said grooves to guide the slide in movement and having means thereon for facilitating reading of the chart information, said plate having clip means for temporarily fastening the plate to the containers, said clip means comprising a portion of the plate at one end o-f the plate bent over to form a hookon the side thereof opposite the chart, and a portion of the plate at the other end thereof extending away from the main body of the plate on the side opposite the chart at an angle of slightly less than a right angle with an out-turned end whereby it maybe snapped over the container edge.
3. An information giving attachment for savings bank containers and the like comprising a thin plate having two opposite side edges formed with grooves opening toward each other, the surface between said grooves having a chart of information thereon, a slide having portions tting in said grooves to guide the slide in movement and having means thereon for facilitating reading of the chart information, said plate having clip means for temporarily fastening the plate -to the containers, said clip means comprising integral portions of said plate at opposite ends thereof bent over to snap onto the edges of the containers, said plate having projections at the ends to hold the slide in said grooves.
4. An information giving attachment for book banks comprising a plate having means at two opposite edges adapted to snap over the edges of the bank to removably secure the plate thereon, said means comprising an integral portion of said plate at the one edge extended and bent over to form a hook and an integral portion at the opposite edge extending away from the main body of the plate at an angle of slightly less than a right angle with an outturned end, said plate having a chart thereon on the side opposite said means. 5
5. An information giving attachment for boo banks comprising a plate having means at two opposite edges adapted to snap over the edges of the bank to removably secure the plate thereon, said means comprising an integral portion of said 10 plate at theV one edge extended and bent over to form a hook and an integral portion at the opposite edge extending away from the main body of the plate at an angle of slightly less than a right angle with an outturned end, said plate having 15 a chart thereon on the side opposite said means, and said plate having a slide movable up and down thereon, said slidehaving means thereon facilitating the reading of the chart information. 20
