19 Claims. (Cl. li0-10'7) The present invention relates to improvements in calendars and the primary obect of the invention is to provide a calendar embodying two cooperatively related sheets or sections having a single fold line and so permanently joined in assembled relation as to permit portions of either face ofone section being exposed to View for displaying selected calendar indicia at either side of the calendar.

A further object is to provide a calendar embodyinga date sheet having a single fold, and a folded head sheet embracing one marginal portion of the date sheet and permanently affixed thereto in a manner to provide a pocket ateach side of the calendar for receiving and retaining a marginal portion of the date sheet whereby selected portions of either face of the date sheet may be exposed to View for displaying the desired calendar indicia.

A further Objectis to provide a calendar embodying a date sheet having the monthly calendars printed upon opposite faces thereof and folded upon itself on a single fold line in a manner whereby four different groups of `dates may be exposed to view; with means for releasably retaining one section of the folded date sheet in position at either face of the other section.

A further object is to provide a reversible calendar of this characterl having imprints upon each side thereof, which may be produced without the necessityof making two impressions, o-ne on each face of the calendar.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a calendar of this character wherein a Variety of color combinations may be easily provided in accordance with the desires of the purchaser, and wherein different color designs may be provided eacli time that a group of dates areexposed to view.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a calendar embodying two folded, connected sheets one of which bears printing upon one side only and the other of which is printed upon both sides, said sheets capable of being arranged to Show four different faces each of said faces presenting a different color combination when exposed to View.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the fo1lowing detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings-forming a part of this specication and in which drawings:-

Figure l is a perspective View of the calendar and showing the fold portion in a partially turned position to be Ytucked under the head sheet.

Figure 2 'is a plan view of the calendar and showing a portion'of the head sheet broken away.

Figure 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 and showing the manner in which the head sheet embracesthe ends of the calendar sheet.

Figure 4 is a transverse section on the line 4--4 of Figure 2.

Figure 5 is a plan view of one face of the calendar or date sheet and showing the manner in which the months are printed thereon.

Figure 6 is a plan view showing the manner in which the head sheet may be printed so that when folded, the VadvertisingV or other indicia thereon will appear in proper relation to the printing on the date sheet.

Figures '7, 8, 9 and 10 are plan views on a reduced scaleand showing one `arrangement of color combinations which may be obtained upon a single lcalendar when various groups of months are exposed to view.

Referring to the drawings in detail and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts thruout the several views, the letter A may designate the date or calendar sheet and B the head sheet -or piece for permanent attachment over one end of the date sheet preferably by means of a metal eyelet C.

The date .or calendar sheet A consists of a single sheet of material of a suitable grade stock having a single transverse score line or crease 5 formed substantially midway the ends thereof and dividing the sheet into an upper or body section 6 and a lower or fold section 1. This scoring or crease 5 forms a fold line permitting folding ofthe `fold section l in either direction into confronting relation over either face of the body section 6 as shown in Figure 3 with the free end edges of the sections aligning or substantially so. The date sheet may be of any .desired size in accordance-with the particular shape of the calendar desired, and in the example shown the sheet is of suiiicient length so that when folded upon the line 5, the sections- 6 and 'I will have greater height than breadth.

Printed upon each face of theV date sheet A and at opposite sides of the medial fold line 5 are the monthly calendars 8 providing a twelve month calendar. The twelve monthly calendars 8 are preferably arranged in groups of three upon each face of each sheet section 6 and 'l with the groups of months upon each faceof the date sheet arranged in reversedrelation at opposite-'sides of the fold line 4asymore clearly illustrated `in Figure 5. Thus, four groups of calendar months of three months each are provided, one group upon each face of each

sheet section

6 and 7.

The groups of months upon opposite faces of the body section 6 terminate below the upper or free end of this section to leave a blank attaching end portion 9, while the groups of months upon opposite faces of the lower or fold section I terminate in spaced relation to the free end of the section I to provide a tongue portion I having an area substantially equal to the area of the end portion 9. Y

The head sheet B is intended for permanent attachment to one end of the date sheet A and is medially folded upon itself as along the fold line II to provide flaps I2. The folded head sheet B embraces the attaching end portion 9 with the fol-d I I extending along the free end edge of ythe sheet section 6 so that the flaps I2 overlie opposite faces of the blank end portion il. These flaps I2 provide a Vpocket I4 at each f-ace of the body section 6 for removably receiving the tongue, portion I of the fold section 'l when the latter section is in a folded position over either face of the body section.

While the head sheet B may be secured to the date sheet A in various manners, this securing is preferably accomplished by means of a metal eyelet C extended thru the flaps vI2 and attaching portion 9 at a point closely adjacent the fold I I and midway betweenthe side edges of the flaps. Thus the eyelet C forms a permanent connection between the sheets A and B, connecting the head sheet B in a permanently folded condition embracing one end portion of the elongated date sheet A. This eyelet also forms areinforced opening. for suspending the calendar and rmly holds the tongue portion Ill embraced by the flaps I2.

The head sheet B is intended to contain advertising or other suitable indicia. and has printed upon one face thereof and in reverse relation at opposite sides of the medial fold line II, the copies or imprints I adapted for display at opposite faces of the calendar. The head or top of the copies I5 are adjacent to the fold line II so that when the head sheet B is doubled or folded over the upper Smargin-al portion of the date sheet A, the copies upon each flap I2 are disposed in proper position for reading. These -copies or imprints I5 may either be duplicated upon the ilaps I2 or may vvary slightly in design and character ina manner to be subsequently described. Y

The free end edge of the fold section l of the date sheet is notched out as at IB at a point midway between the side edges of the fold section,4 andthe neck of the eyelet C is received in said notch when the tongue portion is tucked under either of the flaps I2.V This arrangement serves to more Yfirmly hold the tongue portion Il! in either of the pockets I4 and retains the free end of the date sheet in proper alignment over either face of the upper or attached end of the sheet. VAs will be observed, the calendar consists of two folded sheets on one of which is printed all of the calendar months and on the other of which is printed the advertising copy. The head sheet B ,is printed while in a flat condition and after printing, is folded so that the advertisement or imprint will appear on both faces of the calendar. In this mannerV the cost of producing calenders havingV advertising imprints on both faces is considerably reduced as it dispenses with the necessity of making two impressions, one on each face of the calendar. The head sheet B is printed with all of the special advertising copy used by the advertiser, while on the date sheet all of the standard copy is printed. By standard 5 copy, reference is had to the copy such as the monthly calendars 8, which is to appear on all calendars of advertisers using the calendars.

In the general procedure now in use for producing ordinary single face calendars, the calendars are usually made upcomplete and then imprinted singly with the special advertising copy in small lots for different advertisers as orders are received, thereby requiring an impression for each calendar. By using a head sheet such as disclosed, which may be small and which contains only the advertising imprint, the head sheets may be produced in gangs of any suitable number, printing/several calendar orders at one time and attaching the heads after cutting them apart to the date sheets which may be carried in stock, thus producing the imprinted calendar at very low cost as compared with single imprinting of ordinary calendars.

Referring now to the manner in which a different color design or effect may be had at times during use of the calendar, one example of such has been illustrated in Figures '7 to l0 inclusive wherein the combination of colors is such that four different color combinations are obtainable during the life of the calendar. In these Figures '7 to l0, one flap of the head sheet as in Figures '7 and 8 is shown colored green and the other flap as in Figures 9 and 10 colored brown; while one entire face of the date sheet as in Figures 8 and 10 is colored green and the other face as in Figures 7 and 9 colored brown. Therefore, by VVso printing the date sheet in a dierent color on each side, and the head sheet in two colors on the same side, it is possible to produce the novel characteristics in a calendar of this kind providing for a different color design or appearance each time the dates are changed and four times during the period the calendar is in use. By carrying the date sheet in stock in several different colors and the head sheet in several different colors, the producer can at no additional cost multiply the color combinations of date and head sheets to an almost unlimited extent and can oder the purchaser his choice of colors in regard to both the head sheet and the date sheet.

It will be noted that the monthly calendars start with the month of January and run up to December. Therefore, the first group of months as shown in Figure 7 Vincludes January, February and March and during this three month period of time the calendarshows a green head sheet and a brown date sheet. When the fold section 'I is folded to display April, May and June as in Figure 8, the calendar shows an entire green face. When the fold section 'I is folded to display the group of months July, August and September as in Figure 9, the calendar shows an entire brown face. When the fold section 'I is again folded to display the group of months October, November and December as in Figure 10, the calendar shows a green date sheet and a brown head sheet. Thus the same combination of colors does not appear twice, and four color combinations are obtained during the life of the calendar. With this color arrangement, the tone of the calendar may be changed so that the prevailing effect of the calendar may either be warm or cold in accordance with the particular season of the year. In use, the fold section 1 is folded 'over one `face of vthe body section 6 and the tongue portion I0 tucked into one of the pockets I4 toproduce the desired group of months on one of the two` faces of the calendar. After Vexpiration of the three months period ottime, thefold Vsection is again folded on the line 5 and tucked into one of thepockets I4 under a flap I2 Vto produce the desired group of succeeding months on oneof the two faces of the calendar. C f hus a new and novel form of calendar has been-disclosedconsisting of ua major sheet forming a datasheet, and a minor sheet'forming a headsheet, each having a single fold in'lthebody thereof,l withone end portion of the major lsheet so permanently attached to an intermediate portion of the minor vsheet as to provide for a free end of the major sheet to be temporarily attached to the minor sheet in a `manner for displaying selected calendar indicia at either side'of the calendar.

Various changes in' the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be made to the form-.of invention-herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. A calendar consisting of a calendar sheet divided by a single transverse fold line into two date sections, and means permanently secured to one of said date sections for releasably retaining the other date section in confronting relation to either face thereof.

2. A calendar consisting of a major sheet foldable upon itself on a single fold line to provide two date sections, and a minor sheet embracing and secured to one marginal portion of one date section and forming pockets for releasably receiving one marginal portion of the other date section for selective -display of either face of either date section.

3. A calendar consisting of a date sheet and a head sheet, each having a single fold line, and means permanently securing the sheets together in assembled relation with the head sheet embracing one marginal portion of the date sheet to permit portions of either face of the date sheet being exposed to view for displaying selected calendar indicia at either side of the calendar.

4. A calendar consisting of a date sheet foldable at its medial portion, a folded head sheet embracing the free end edges `of the folded date sheet, and means permanently securing the head sheet to one free end edge of the date sheet to provide a pocket at each side of the calendar for receiving and retaining the other free end edge portion of the date sheet.

5. A calendar consisting of a date sheet having the monthly calendars printed in groups upon opposite faces thereof and foldable upon itself on a single fold line for displaying selected groups of months, and means adjacent the free end edges of the date sheet for releasably retaining one section of the folded date sheet at eithei` face of the other section.

6. A calendar consisting ofa date sheet having the monthly calendars printed in groups upon opposite faces thereof and foldable upon itself on single fold line and embracing theyfree edges of the folded sections of `tliedate sheet, and means permanently securing the head sheet to the date sheet and permitting vfolding of one section of the date sheet .over either face of its companion section. .f

7. A'calendarcomprising. a date sheet foldable at one vpoint to provide a body section and a fold section, each of .said :sections having a group of `months printed `upon each face thereof, a head sheet folded upon itself and embracing the free end portions of thedate sheet sections to provide a pocket at each'side ofthe calendar, and means `permanently lconnecting the head sheet adjacent 4itsi'old line to `the free end portion of the body section.`

9. A calendar comprising a date sheet including a body'section and a fold section foldably "joined to lthe lower edge of `the body section, a

head sheet folded over the'upper edge of the body section and providing flaps forming a pocket at each face of the body section for receiving the free edge of the fold section, and an eyelet permanently connecting the head sheet in a folded condition to the body section.

10. A calendar comprising a date sheet having groups of months printed upon each face thereof, a head sheet folded over one edge of the date sheet and providing a flap at each face of the date sheet, said flaps to have indicia printed thereon for display at opposite faces of the calendar, and an eyelet permanently connecting the head sheet to the date sheet, said date sheet being foldable on a single fold line to provide a fold section having its free edge insertable beneath either of said flaps for selectively displaying four groups of months.

11. A calendar comprising a date sheet having a single intermediate fold line, and a head sheet having a Ysingle intermediate fold line permanently secured to one end of the date sheet and providing iiaps at each face of the date sheet beneath which the free end of the date sheet may be inserted and retained for displaying selected calendar indicia at either face of the calendar.

12. A calendar comprising a date sheet having a single fold line providing an upper body section and a lower fold section each having a group of months printed upon each face thereof, a head sheet folded over the upper free edge of the body body section for receiving the free edge of the fold section, said free edge of the fold section having a notch midway between the side edges of the date sheet, and an eyelet securing the head sheet to the date sheet and received in said notch when the free edge of the fold section is inserted in either of said pockets.

13. A calendar comprising a. date sheet having a single fold line providing an upper body section and a lower fold section, said date sheet being printed with a standard copy upon each face thereof, and a head sheet having a special copy printed upon one face thereof folded over and secured to one ee portion of the date sheet for displaying the special copy at opposite faces of the calendar.

14. A calendar comprising a single folded date sheet, a single folded head sheet embracing one free end of the date sheet, and means securing the head sheet in afolded condition to the date sheet, said date sheet having the months of the calendar grouped upon each face thereof, and said head sheet having a. special copy printed in duplicate upon one face thereof.

15. A calendar comprising a single folded date sheet, a single folded'head sheet embracing one free end of the date sheet, and means securing the head sheet in a folded position to the date sheet, said date sheet being imprinted upon each face thereof with groups of months arranged in reverse relation at opposite sides of the fold, and

said head sheet being imprinted in duplicate` upon one face with special copies arranged in reverse relation at opposite sides of the fold.

16. A calendar comprising a single folded date sheet providing a body section and a fold section, a single folded head sheet providing a pair of flaps embracing one free end of the date sheet, and means securing the head sheet in a folded condition to the date sheet, said date sheet being printed in different colors upon opposite faces thereof with the months of the calendar arranged in groups upon the date sheet sections,

and said head sheet being printed with a special copy in diierent colors upon the flaps thereof.

A calendar comprising a single folded date sheet providing a body section and a fold section, said date sheet being printed in different colors upon opposite sides thereof, a single folded head sheet providing a pair of aps embracing the upper edge of the bodv section with the aps colored different from vthe coloring of the corresponding faces of the body section, and means l securing the head sheet in a folded condition to the body section.

18. A reversible calendar comprising a single folded date sheet dierently colored upon opposite faces thereof, and a single folded head sheet secured to one end of the date sheet and providing a il'ap at each face of the date sheet, said flaps being reversely colored to that of the corresponding faces of the date sheet permitting four diierent color designs being obtainable dur- 2 ing the life of the calendar.

19. A calendar comprising a single folded date sheet providing a body section and a fold section, said body section having a blank attaching end portion and said fold portion having a tongue 2 portion at its free end. and a single folded head sheet embracing the attaching end portion and providing flaps at each face of the calendar beneath which said tongue portion may be retained at either face o f the body section. 3
