My invention relates to an adjustable device for holding flue covers rigid against the flue wall after the fume pipe has been removed from the flue.
The object of my invention provides a novel combination of adjustable locking, holding, slotted, sliding sheet metal members, that can be readily adjustedso they are secured tight and rigid in the flues of different diameters varying from five to nine inches in diameter.
Another object of my invention provides a novel front and back pair of adjustable slotted, sliding sheet metal members, a locking bar with a plurality of notches, for locking the members and the flue ring rigid together, a threaded member, and a threaded thumb nut for holding a flue cover rigid with a locking bar and the flue wall.
My invention is of a simple and economical construction, for holding flue covers rigid against the flue wall or flue ring, and consists in certain details of construction and operation of parts as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the annexed drawing similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in all views sheet metal notched locking bar, assembled.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section, showing the flue ring, adjustable sliding sheet metal members, adjustable sheet metal locking bar and the flue cover in position.
While I have described my invention briefly, I now proceed to describe my invention specifically.
Numeral I designates the flue cover and 2 the aperture in the flue cover I. 3 is the sheet metal key member with an L-shaped end 4- and an aperture 5 in its bent portion. A threaded bolt 6 extends through the aperture 5, and a threaded nut I holds the threaded boltv 6 and the sheet metal key member 3 rigidly together. 8 is the nut for locking the adjustable slotted, sliding sheet metal members 9l-I IIZ rigid with the front and back end of the flue ring I3 before the flue cover I is placed on.
Members 9-IiI-I II2 are rigid in and against the flue ring I3 before the flue cover I is placed over the threaded portion of the threaded bolt 6. The front adjustable slotted, sliding sheet metal members 9-40 and the back slotted, sliding sheet metal members III2 have slots, I4, adapted to register with each other, the 5 adjustable members having their outer edges I5 bent in toward each other, to increase their strength, and to form channels for their female members 9I2 to slide in. The outer ends I6- II of the members 9IQI II2 are bent 10 L-shaped to fit over the front and back edges of the flue ring I3 and the members can be readily adjusted to flt flues of different diameters varying from five to nine inches in diameter (as shown in Fig. 3). The flue cover I with the hole 2 in its center is then ready to be placed in position centrally over the threaded portion of the bolt 6, and then the thumb nut I9 is tightened to provide a spring tension at the circumference of the flue cover I with the .flue wall I8. This keeps the flue cover from slipping or sliding away from the center of the flue by the vibration of the building.
Certain details of construction of the apparatus have been somewhat specifically described, but modifications, within the scope of the invention, may occur in practice, to meet various conditions, and I therefore do not wish to be understood as being limited to the precise disclosures herein, but having thus described my invention, as required, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination, a flue ring, a flue cover, holding means therefor, comprising a front pair of relatively extensible sheet metal slotted members with their slots lengthwise, adapted to register with each other, a back pair of relatively extensible sheet metal slotted members with their slots lengthwise, adapted to register with each other, a sheet metal locking member with a plurality of notches in its edges engaging the slots of said back members for holding the members rigid with the front edges and the back edges of the flue ring, means for holding the center of the flue cover rigid with the rigid front member and the circumference of the flue cover with the flue wall.
2. In combination, a flue ring, a flue cover, holding means therefor, comprising a front pair of relatively extensible sheet metal slotted members with their slots adapted to register with each other, a back pair of relatively extensible sheet metal slotted members with slots adapted to register with each other, a sheet metal locking member with a plurality of notches in its edges engaging the slots of said back members for holding the members rigid with the front edges and the back edges of the flue ring, means for holding the center of the flue cover rigid with the rigid front member and to provide a spring tension at the circumference of the flue cover with the flue wall.
3. In combination, a flue ring, an apertured fiue cover, holding means therefor, comprising a front and back pair of slotted telescopically engaging channel members, means passing through the slots of said members and the aperture of said cover for holding the members rigid with the front and back edges of the flue ring, and the circumference of the flue cover against the flue wall.

In combination, a flue ring, an apertured flue cover, holding means therefor, comprising a front and back pair of slotted telescopically engaging channel members, a sheet metal locking member provided with a plurality of notches in its edges engaging the slots of said back members, said member being provided with an L- 5 shaped end portion and a threaded bolt passing through said end portion and slots of the front members, a threaded nut on the bolt for tightening' the members rigid with the front and back edges of the flue ring, said bolt and nut cooper- 10
