' s claims. (c1. 15o-a4) This invention relates to receptacles, such. as ladies handbags, pocketbooks, and similar articles, and `more particularly to combination handbags and toilet cases, such as vanity cases and cosmetic containers. One object of this invention is to provide a combination handbag and toilet case in which the toilet case constitutes a fastener element of the bag.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combined toilet case and bag fastener construc- Vcase in retracted position;

-the handbag I8 may be made of any suitable material, such as leather or fabric, and comprises a rear wall I2, a front wall I4 which is usually integral with the said rear wall, end gussets I6 stitched to the ends of said walls, and a closure flap I8 which may be integral with the rear wall I2 or in the form of a separate piecestitched to the upper edge of said rear wall. On the closure wall or flap I8 there is slidably mounted, as hereinafter more specifically described, a metal vanity case 28 for releasable engagement with a keeper z2 secured to the front wan m `and extending through an opening 24 in the closure ilap I8.

'I'he vanity casecomprises ajbox` 26 within which a cake of powder or a cake of rouge, or both, may be contained together with a powder pui, and a cover 28 hinged to the box may contain a mirror 30. The boxand cover are pro- Gj vided `with interengaging fastening projections 32 and 34for`releasably securing the cover in closed ,in a metal plate 56, located between said wall position. As shown in Fig. 1a, in the normal vertical position of the handbag, when the vanity case is disengaged from the keeper 22, and when the cover is opened the latter hangs from the lowerhinge-edge 36, exposing the contents of 5 the box andthe mirror 3!) for convenient use of the vanity case.

For slidably mounting the vanity case 20 on the handbag there are provided a guide member 36 secured to the flap I8 and a guide plate 38 se- I cured to the bottom .of the vanity case in any suitable way, as by rivets (not shown) The guide member 36 is secured to the flap I8 by a metal fastener plate 31 which is soldered'or otherwise fix- The plate 31 is provided 15 edly attached thereto. with prongs 39 which are passed through the ap I8 and through apertures in a metal plate 4I, positioned between the flap I8 and the lining -I 9, and clinched over the plate 4I, as shown more Iclearly in Fig. 3. The fastener plate 31 also 20 spaces the plate 38 to some extent from the flap I 8, as shownin Fig. 4. The plate 38 has inturned flanges 48 for slidable engagement with the end portions of the member 36 and said flanges are reduced in width at their ends 42 for limiting the 25 movement ofthe plate with respect to the guide member 36. The iiange portions 42 of reduced width also provide greater clearance between the plate 38 and the fiap I8 thereby to prevent said platefrom engaging'the flap I8 in the edge thereof at the opening 24 which might otherwise occur when sliding the vanity case from closure-releasing or retracted position shown in Fig. 4 to projected and closure-fastening or keeper-en- 35 gagingposition shown in Fig. 1.

As shown more clearly in Figs. 2 and 4, the keeper`22 is constituted by a U-shaped metal strap having a front longitudinal portion 44, which may be suitably ornamented if desired, and lateral portions 46 of a length sufcient to space said front portion from the flap I8 to permit the vanity case to slidably engage saidfront portion with a rather snug t td prevent unintentional or accidental release of the vanity case from the 45 keeper.v For a more positive connection between the vanity case and the keeper, the portion'44 of the latter is provided with rounded projections o'r pimples 48 for engagement with rounded recesses or dimples 58 in the cover 28 of the vanity 50 case. The keeper is secured to the front I4 of the handbag by prongs 62 integral with the lateral portions 46 but of reduced width. Said prongs pass through slits in the wall I 4 and through slits and thelining 58, and are clinchedover said plate, thus holding the keeper in xed position on the wall I4 in forwardly projecting relation thereto. As the ends of the lateral portions 44 adjacent the prongs 52 are wider than the prongs, them keeper 22 is rigid with the plate 56 and the portio'n of the wall I4 clamped between said plate and the ends of said lateral portions. The guide member 36 is similarly rigid with the plate 4| and the portion of the cover flap clamped between said guide plate and the fastener plate 31.

In Fig. 5, the invention is shown in connection with a handbag 66 of the well known hinged U- shaped metal frame type. As here show, the keeper 62, which is o'f the same construction as the keeper 22, is secured to one Wall 64 of the bag and projects forwardly through an opening 66 in the other wall 68, and the vanity case 10, which is of the same construction as the vanity case 20, is slidably mounted on the Wall 6,8 for releasable engagement with the keeper. . In Figs. 6 to 8 there is illustrated a combination handbag and lip-stick container.A The hand- .bag 1.2- is of the type shown in Fig. and comprises a hinged metal frame .constituted by two `U-shaped metal members-Rand 14 hinged to- .gether in the well known way (not shown), the

fabric or leather material of the bag .walls 15 and 16being secured to said frame members rin the usual way. A metal keeper 11 is secured to the -top of .metal frame 13 of the wall 15 and projects laterally over the metal frame .14 o'f the Wall 16. The projecting portion 18 ofthe keeper 11 is provided with a cylindrical bore 19. A metal .bracket 80 provided with a cylindrical bore 8i is secured tothe frame member 14. The keeper 18 4and thebracket 80 may be secured to the metal -frames 13 and 14 in anysuitable way as,rfor. eX- ample-by beingsoldered thereto. When the bag .is. closed, vas shown in Fig. 6, the

A receptacle comprising two walls, a closure flap extending from one of said walls and overlying the .other of said walls, said flap having an openingtherethrough, a U-shaped strap secured to the last mentioned wall and projecting through the opening in said flap, a guide member mounted onsaid flap and a vanity case slidably mounted on said member for movement to projected position in engagement with said U-shaped strap to secure said iap in closed position, and to retracted position out of engagement with said U-shaped strap tc release said iap.

A receptacle comprising a ladys handbag having two walls, a closure flap exnding from one of said walls in overlying relation to the other of said walls Vand provided with an opening therethrough, a guide member mounted on said ap, a vanity case having a plate slidably engaging said member, and a keeper secured to one of said Walls and projecting'through the opening in said flapwhen the latter is in closed position,
