IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-Tl ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202.552, dated April 16, 1878; application filed December 12, 1877.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN KNIPSGHEER, of
the town of VVeiniar, in the county of Colorado and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bale-Ties, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to that class of wire bale-ties in which the free ends of the wire are united to an open circular link or hook; and the novelty consists in forming a peculiar double-loop connection with such link, as hereinafter described and claimed.
A of the drawing represents a circular link, the ends of which are disunited, as shown. 0 represents a baling-wire, the free ends of which are united to the link A by my peculiar double loop.
In forming my loop I usually twist a free end of the wire backward upon the main body at a suitable distance from the end, forming thereby a single open loop of the ordinary character, except it must be of more than the ordinary length. I then twist the said single loop in such manner that its strands shall cross each other, and it assinnes the form illustrated in the drawing, and becomes a double graspingloop, adapted to receive the link A, in the manner shown.
It is obvious that by my method of fastening the wire to the link two advantages are secured. First, the link is held in position and saved from detachment in transportation; and, second, the main strain, when on duty, is taken away from the hook of the link and transferred to the longitudinal portion thereof.
I am aware that connecting-links like the one I have described are old; and, further, I am aware that such links have been used in bale-ties.
I do not claim the link A or its combination with baling-wire in the usual manner but What I claim is- In wire bale'ties, the combination of a link, A, and the peculiar double loop, constructed as described, substantially as specified.
