Description
B.-A. CHAMBERLIN Studded-Links.
No. 168,081, Paten ted Sept. 28,1875.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHARLES A. GHAMBERLIR OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN STUDDED LINKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,081, dated September 28, 1875; application filed August 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. CHAMBER- LIN, of the city and county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Studded Links; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand, make, and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a top or face view of a link embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section in line :10 as, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a tween its sides. 0 represents the bends of the link, which are flattened and contain a greater area in cross-section than the sides. The stud or brace B has its bases D made broad, and,
owing to the liability of a studded link to break on the inside near the stud, the bases D are made broad, so as to extend beyond the usual points of fracture of the sides of the link, and thus the leverage of the thrust of the stud is decreased, whereby the link is rendered exceedingly strong and reliable. Furthermore, additional strength is imparted to the links due to the flattened bends C, which contain a greater area in cross-section than the sides ot the link. In the stud B is formed a perioration, E, which serves to remove unnecessary weight and affords means for engagement of a chain-hook.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A chain-link having a broad base-perforated stud, in combination with flattened bends containing a greater area in cross-section than the sides, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A chain-link having flattened bends (l,
which contain agreater area in cross-section than the sides of the link, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
