Water-Bed Pence.
No. 202,428. Patented A ril 16, 1878:.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ FEIKE, OF MIDDLETOWN, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN WATER-BED FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,428, dated April 16, 1878 5 application filed March 19, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ FEIKE, of Middletown, in the county of Montgomery and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Fence, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a perspective view of my improved fenee. Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a permanent fence forstreams and rivers, which may be cheaply and easily constructed, and will resist the action of floods.
The invention consists in a number of. slats or bars supported by suitable frame-work, so as to present an upwardly-inclined surface to the current.
Referring to the drawing, A is a horizontal timber that extends across the stream,,and is supported by posts v13, having upon their upper ends tenons that are fitted into mortises in the timber A. The posts are slightly inclined, and the upper face of the timber A is beveled to receive the slats I), which are bolted or spiked together.
The lower ends of the slats or bars are bolted to a cross-bar, C, which keeps them an equal distance apart. I
Timbers D are let into the bank of the stream, and a long bolt or rod, E, passes through them and also through the lower ends of the posts B. A rod, F, passes through the.
timbers D at the opposite end, and the ends of the slats b are placed under it.
The timbers D, being anchored in the banks of the stream, give a firm support to the fence, and the downward pressure of the advancing current of water gives it increased stability. Flood-wood and other floating bodies glide over the fence without injuring it.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A water-fence consisting of the inclined slats b, a support composed of the timber A and posts B, the anchor timbers D, and bolts E F, substantially as shown and described.
FRANZ FEIKE.
