IMPROVEMENT iN SKYLIGHTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,160, dated April 9,1878; application filed December 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL T. DURKIN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Skylight, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is avertical section of a portion of a skylight made according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section, showing the construction of the glass-supporting bar.

The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A is the rib of a skylight, which is made from a single piece of sheet metal, that is bent twice at right angles at a a, forming the main portion of the rib, and is bent downward or returned upon itselfat each side, and bent outward at right angles, and then upward, forming the lip or ledge 12, upon which the glass rests. The rib is symmetrical in form, both sides being similar, but oppositely disposed. The edge of the glass rests upon the lip b, and below the glass and between the lip and main portion of the rib there is a space, 0, which forms a conductor for water that follows the edges of the glass.
The cap B is of the usual form, being nearly triangular in section, and having, at intervals, slit-s cut in its apex to receive the clips d, that consist of strips of metal, that are folded together and soldered in the slot in the main or central portion of the rib A. These clips projeot through the slits inthe cap 'B, and are secured by solder. When it is desired to remove the cap B for any purpose these clips are unsoldered.
The bar made in this manner is inexpensive, and at the same time is strong, and presents a finished appearance.
I am aware that devices somewhat similar to mine have been heretofore used; but my bar requires less material, while it is sufficiently strong, can be made at much less cost, requires no putty, and is more acceptable in appearance.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the bar A, made as described, the cap B, and the clips d, substantially as specified.
