Description

J. WASH. e D e iee for Removing Bees from Honey Boxes.
Ne. 201,965. Patented April 2,1878.v
WITNESSES: INVENTOR:
ATTORNEYS.
NPETEBS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, D (E UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR REMOVING BEES FROM HONEY-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,965, dated April 2, 1878 application filed September 22, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES WASH, of Mount Sterling, in the county of Brown and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Protecting Honey- Boxes from Robber-Bees, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved device, taken through the line a; .12, Fig. .2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same,'taken through the line y 3 Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for protecting honey-boxes from robber-bees, while allowing the bees that may be in the honey-boxes to pass out and return to the hive.
The invention consists in the construction of a box provided with a nozzle or spout, as will be hereinafter more fully explained.
A represents a box of any desired size, according to the number of honey-boxes to be taken from the hives at a time, which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.
To the boxA are attached one or more pairs or sets of bars, B, for the honey-boxes C to be placed upon. The lower set or sets of bars B may be placed upon the bottom of the box A, and the upper set or sets may be placed upon cleats D, attached to the inner surface of the said box A. The box A is provided with a closely-fitting top or cover, a to prevent light from entering the said box. In one side of the box A is formed a long narrow slot, a
To the outer surface of the box A, at each end of the slot a are attached two open keepers, E, to receive the ends of the board F, which has a long narrow slot, f, formed in it, corresponding in shape, size, and positionwith the slot a of the box A.
To the outer side of the board F is attached a wedge-shaped or tapering wire-gauze funnel tube or spout, G, the open outer end of which is made only large enough for the bees to pass out through, but will prevent the bees from returnin g and robber-bees from entering.
With this construction, when the honeyboxes are removed from the hives, they are placed in 'the box A, and the top or cover a is closed. The bees in the honey-boxes will then pass out through the slots M, f, and spout G, and will return to the hives.
The box A may be placed among the hives,
'or in any other convenient place, as bees cannot find their way into it.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent- As supplemental to a bee-hive, and for the purpose described, the box A, provided with the nozzle G, as set forth.
JAMES WASH.
