Description

E- CARTER. Bee-Feeding Device.
Patente d Feb. 19,1878.
N. PETERS, PILOT0-UTHOGRAPNEE WASHINGTON, D, C.
UNITED STATES'PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA CARTER, OF FOLSOM CITY, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BEE-FEEDING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,506, dated February 19, 1878; application filed October 9, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA CARTER, of Folsom City, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Device for Feedin g Bees; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved bee-feeder. Fig. 2 shows it in position upon the hive, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention relates to that class of devices which are used for feeding bees and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the drawings, A is a bee-hive, which may be of any suitable construction, and B B are the comb-frames thereof. On top of these I place my improved feeding device, which consists of a bottomless boX or square frame, 0, of suitable dimensions. Upon this frame I secure, by'tacks or otherwise, a piece of muslin or cloth, (I, of good quality, large enough to sag down in the middle nearly to the bottom of the box or frame. Honey, sirup, sugar and water, or other similar matter suitable for beefeed, is then placed upon the cloth d, and the whole device is covered with a wire or gauze screen, D.
As the sirup filters through the cloth d it is taken from the under side thereof by the bees,
which can readily pass up between the combframes. The screen D protects it from moths, ants, and other insects.
My improved bee-feeding device, as will be readily seen, is simple, cleanly, and easy of access.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the
