Description

    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • The present application is related to and claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62/592,129 filed Nov. 29, 2017, which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The following includes information that may be useful in understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art nor material to the presently described or claimed inventions, nor that any publication or document that is specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
  • 1. FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates generally to the field of furniture and more specifically relates to a table.
  • 2. DESCRIPTION OF RELATED ART
  • People are working less and less at desks, sequestered alone in a study or bedroom, and more on the couch in living rooms and family rooms with other people around. Unfortunately, people may find it difficult to balance food and drinks while working on a couch and may also slouch down, affecting their posture. Further, most dining rooms don't offer spectacular views, forcing people to stare at walls when sitting around a table. Additionally, most living and family rooms are large enough to accommodate a sectional sofa or sofa and loveseat, but this can be limiting for large groups of people. A suitable solution is desired.
  • U.S. Pub. No. 2013/0305964 to James Swallow relates to a couch shelf. The described couch shelf includes a space saving, single shelf accessory unit designed primarily to be placed behind the back of a couch. The Couch Shelf works equally well behind or next to a bed. The shelving component of the Couch Shelf is manufactured in wood, plastic or glass material. The Couch Shelf is manufactured in three installment type embodiments. A first embodiment is free standing, a second embodiment is fixed and wall mounted, and a third embodiment is a hinged and wall mounted or mounted to the back of the couch.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known furniture art, the present disclosure provides a novel sofa bar system. The general purpose of the present disclosure, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a work surface having a power source for dining, lounging, or working thereon
  • A sofa bar system is disclosed herein. The sofa bar system includes a stand-alone table. The stand alone table includes and is defined by a top surface, a bottom surface, a first-leg, a second-leg, a power source and at least one outlet. The first-leg and the second-leg preferably comprise an equal height and are positioned at opposing ends of the top surface. The top surface comprises a top-surface-width equal to a width of the first-leg and the second-leg forming a c-shaped profile with flush corner joints. The stand alone table is configured to provide a work surface for positioning behind a sofa or against a wall. The stand alone table preferably includes two power cords, one positioned at each opposing side of the stand alone table. In a preferred embodiment, two outlets are provided on the stand alone table and each outlet includes one AC plug-in apparatus and one USB port.
  • A kit is also disclosed herein including a first-leg, a second-leg, a work surface including a top-surface and bottom-surface, a set of instructions, fasteners, and a tightening tool.
  • For purposes of summarizing the invention, certain aspects, advantages, and novel features of the invention have been described herein. It is to be understood that not necessarily all such advantages may be achieved in accordance with any one particular embodiment of the invention. Thus, the invention may be embodied or carried out in a manner that achieves or optimizes one advantage or group of advantages as taught herein without necessarily achieving other advantages as may be taught or suggested herein. The features of the invention which are believed to be novel are particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed in the concluding portion of the specification. These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings and detailed description.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • As discussed above, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to furniture and more particularly to a sofa bar system as used to improve lounging, dining, and working while watching TV by providing a slim profile work surface for behind a couch or against a wall.
  • Generally, the present invention allows users to comfortably lounge, dine, and work while watching TV, looking out a large picture window, or otherwise ‘hanging out’ in a living room or similar space. It effectively eliminates the need to disrupt the flow of a room with a stand-alone table or desk. It enables larger groups of people to congregate in a single room without pulling in extra chairs or cluttering up floor space. The device prevents people from slouching while sitting on the couch with a laptop or struggling to balance a dinner plate in their lap. The present invention accommodates smaller spaces as well with dual functionality as a table and desk. The legs of the table may include a lip with a series of receptacles for receiving studs, hooks, screw, and the like. The table may be fastened to a wall or other surface using suitable fasteners.
  • Sofa bar system, as designed, provides an optimal place to sit behind a sofa or against a wall without taking up valuable floor space or cluttering up a living room. The innovative device may comprise a counter-height table, made from three equal depth and width planks. Each side leg can be of equal height and can support a top of equal width and depth as the two sides. The top itself can range from 72″ to 96″ in length. Additionally, there is no support leg in the middle, allowing unencumbered placement of counter stools underneath the table. Each side leg can be attached to the tabletop via predrilled screw holes. After the legs are screwed in place, tightening mechanisms located inside each upper leg can be engaged via an included tool. Additionally, an attachable metal plate can be secured via predrilled bolts to the bottom of each leg for added stability. Further, integrated into the upper sides of each leg can be a USB and AC plug-in apparatus or other communication/connection means. The cord for the apparatus can extend down the inside of each leg and exit out the back close to the bottom. The cord can be pushed back into the leg and a matching cover can conceal the hole when not in use. The exact specifications may vary upon manufacturing.
