Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to furniture with an integrated lap desk and, more particularly, to a lap desk that can be easily removed from, and easily returned to a dedicated storage location on a piece of furniture.
  • Currently, it is common for people to use laptops in multiple areas of the home and office. In certain circumstances, placing the laptop on ones lap is the most convenient position in order to use the laptop. However, laptops can get very hot and become uncomfortable. To remedy this, a portable lap desk may be used. However, portable lap desks are not always accessible and need to be stored in potentially inconvenient places.
  • As can be seen, there is a need for an easily accessible and storable lap desk.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, a furniture with an integrated lap desk comprising: a furniture piece comprising an integration component; and a lap desk, wherein the lap desk is integrated and secured to the furniture piece via the integration component, wherein the lap desk is configured to be removed from the integration component by a user.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, the integration component comprises at least one of a compartment, a slot and an attachment device.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, the attachment device comprises a hook and the lap desk comprises a socket configured to fit on the hook.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, the furniture piece comprises at least one of a table, a chair and a couch.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, folding supports are operatively connected to the lap desk.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

  • FIG. 10 is a perspective view of a ninth alternate embodiment of the invention; and
  • FIG. 11 is a perspective view of a lap desk 12 in use.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention.
  • Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides furniture with an integrated lap desk. The furniture may include an integration component in which the lap desk may be secured and stored. The integration component may include a compartment, a slot, an attachment device and the like. A user may easily access the lap desk from the furniture.
  • The present invention may include furniture with a removable lap desk that may be integrated into the design of the furniture. The present invention may be easily concealed when not in use by blending into the design and becoming a functional and/or decorative part of the furniture. The lap desk may be incorporated into the furniture design in one of many ways. For example, the lap desk may be a decorative side panel, a component of a table top, concealed in a compartment and the like.
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 through 11, the present invention may include a piece of furniture 10 with an integrated and removable lap desk 12. The lap desk 12 of the present invention may be integrated with almost any piece of furniture 10, including but not limited to, a table, such as an end table and coffee table, television console, desk, chair, sofa, bench, night stand, recliner, bed, armoire, dresser, and the like. The lap desk 12 may be integrated into the furniture 10 to appear to be an element of an existing design, i.e. a top shelf, side panel and the like.
  • When desired, a user may easily remove the lap desk 12 from the furniture 10. The lap desk 12 may be easily placed into the furniture piece 10 when the lap desk 12 is not in use. The lap desk 12 may be made of any suitable material, including but not limited to, wood, composite wood, plastics and the like. In certain embodiments, the lap desk 12 may include folding supports 22, such as folding legs.
  • FIGS. 1 through 4 provide exemplary embodiments of the present invention where the furniture 10 is a table 18, such as a coffee table. As illustrated, the lap desk 12 may integrate with the furniture 10 in multiple configurations. The lap desk 12 may rest in a compartment 32 on the table top 24 or may be secured to the table top 24 by other means. For example, the table top 24 and the bottom of the lap desk 12 may include a ridge and channel configuration, in which the ridge may fit within the channel when the lap desk 12 is secured to the table top 24. The lap desk 12 may be inserted into a slot 26 that may be built into the table 18. The table 18 may further include an attachment device 28 such as a hook or brackets. In configurations including hooks, the lap desk 12 may include a socket 30 that may be placed onto and hang from the hook. In configurations including brackets, the brackets may be installed onto the couch 14 and the lap desk 12 may rest on the brackets.
  • FIG. 5 provides exemplary embodiments of the present invention where the furniture 10 is an end table 20 or night stand. As illustrated, the lap desk 12 may be configured to fit within the end table 20 similar to a drawer. For example, the lap desk 12 may include a ridge and the end table 20 may include a channel. The ridge of the lap desk 12 may easily slide into and be secured by the channel of the end table 20. Therefore, when a user would like to use the lap desk 12, the user may easily slide the lap desk 12 out from the end table 20 and when the user is done with the lap desk 12, the user may slide the lap desk 12 back into the end table 20. The end table 20 may further be configured to include an attachment device 28 and slot 26 as mentioned above.
  • FIGS. 6 and 7 provide exemplary embodiments of the present invention where the furniture 10 is a couch 14 or futon. As illustrated, the lap desk 12 may integrate with the couch 14 in multiple configurations. The lap desk 12 may rest in a compartment 32 on a center console 34 of the couch 14. The lap desk 12 may be inserted into a slot 26 that may be built into the couch 26. The couch 14 may further include an attachment device 28, such as a hook or bracket. In configurations including hooks, the lap desk 12 may include a socket 30 that may be placed onto and hang from the hook. In configurations including brackets, the brackets may be installed onto the couch 14 and the lap desk 12 may rest on the brackets.
  • FIGS. 8 through 10 provide exemplary embodiments of the present invention where the furniture 10 is a chair 16. As illustrated, the lap desk 12 may integrate with the chair 16 in multiple configurations. The lap desk 12 may be inserted into a slot 26 that may be built into the chair 16. The chair 16 may further include an attachment device 28, such as hooks or brackets. In configurations including hooks, the lap desk 12 may include a socket 30 that may be placed onto and hang from the hook. In configurations including brackets, the brackets may be installed onto the chair 16 and the lap desk 12 may rest on the brackets.
  • FIG. 11 illustrates the lap desk 12 of the present invention in use. When desired, the lap desk 12 may be accessed from the furniture 10 since the lap desk 12 may be integrated with the furniture 10. The user may take hold of the lap desk 12 and utilize the lap desk 12 as illustrated. When the user is done using the lap desk 12, the user may then store the lap desk 12 back into the furniture 10.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
