Abstract
Furniture with an integrated lap desk in provided. The furniture may include an integration component in which the lap desk may be secured and stored. The integration component may include a compartment, a slot, an attachment device and the like. A user may easily access the lap desk from the furniture.
Description
- The present invention relates to furniture with an integrated lap desk and, more particularly, to a lap desk that can be easily removed from, and easily returned to a dedicated storage location on a piece of furniture.
- Currently, it is common for people to use laptops in multiple areas of the home and office. In certain circumstances, placing the laptop on ones lap is the most convenient position in order to use the laptop. However, laptops can get very hot and become uncomfortable. To remedy this, a portable lap desk may be used. However, portable lap desks are not always accessible and need to be stored in potentially inconvenient places.
- As can be seen, there is a need for an easily accessible and storable lap desk.
- In one aspect of the present invention, a furniture with an integrated lap desk comprising: a furniture piece comprising an integration component; and a lap desk, wherein the lap desk is integrated and secured to the furniture piece via the integration component, wherein the lap desk is configured to be removed from the integration component by a user.
- In another aspect of the present invention, the integration component comprises at least one of a compartment, a slot and an attachment device.
- In another aspect of the present invention, the attachment device comprises a hook and the lap desk comprises a socket configured to fit on the hook.
- In another aspect of the present invention, the furniture piece comprises at least one of a table, a chair and a couch.
- In another aspect of the present invention, folding supports are operatively connected to the lap desk.

FIG. 11 is a perspective view of alap desk 12 in use. - The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention.
- Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides furniture with an integrated lap desk. The furniture may include an integration component in which the lap desk may be secured and stored. The integration component may include a compartment, a slot, an attachment device and the like. A user may easily access the lap desk from the furniture.
- The present invention may include furniture with a removable lap desk that may be integrated into the design of the furniture. The present invention may be easily concealed when not in use by blending into the design and becoming a functional and/or decorative part of the furniture. The lap desk may be incorporated into the furniture design in one of many ways. For example, the lap desk may be a decorative side panel, a component of a table top, concealed in a compartment and the like.
- Referring to
FIGS. 1 through 11 , the present invention may include a piece offurniture 10 with an integrated andremovable lap desk 12. Thelap desk 12 of the present invention may be integrated with almost any piece offurniture 10, including but not limited to, a table, such as an end table and coffee table, television console, desk, chair, sofa, bench, night stand, recliner, bed, armoire, dresser, and the like. Thelap desk 12 may be integrated into thefurniture 10 to appear to be an element of an existing design, i.e. a top shelf, side panel and the like. - When desired, a user may easily remove the
lap desk 12 from thefurniture 10. Thelap desk 12 may be easily placed into thefurniture piece 10 when thelap desk 12 is not in use. Thelap desk 12 may be made of any suitable material, including but not limited to, wood, composite wood, plastics and the like. In certain embodiments, thelap desk 12 may includefolding supports 22, such as folding legs. -
FIGS. 1 through 4 provide exemplary embodiments of the present invention where thefurniture 10 is a table 18, such as a coffee table. As illustrated, thelap desk 12 may integrate with thefurniture 10 in multiple configurations. Thelap desk 12 may rest in acompartment 32 on thetable top 24 or may be secured to thetable top 24 by other means. For example, thetable top 24 and the bottom of thelap desk 12 may include a ridge and channel configuration, in which the ridge may fit within the channel when thelap desk 12 is secured to thetable top 24. Thelap desk 12 may be inserted into aslot 26 that may be built into the table 18. The table 18 may further include anattachment device 28 such as a hook or brackets. In configurations including hooks, thelap desk 12 may include asocket 30 that may be placed onto and hang from the hook. In configurations including brackets, the brackets may be installed onto thecouch 14 and thelap desk 12 may rest on the brackets. -
FIG. 5 provides exemplary embodiments of the present invention where thefurniture 10 is an end table 20 or night stand. As illustrated, thelap desk 12 may be configured to fit within the end table 20 similar to a drawer. For example, thelap desk 12 may include a ridge and the end table 20 may include a channel. The ridge of thelap desk 12 may easily slide into and be secured by the channel of the end table 20. Therefore, when a user would like to use thelap desk 12, the user may easily slide thelap desk 12 out from the end table 20 and when the user is done with thelap desk 12, the user may slide thelap desk 12 back into the end table 20. The end table 20 may further be configured to include anattachment device 28 andslot 26 as mentioned above. -
FIGS. 6 and 7 provide exemplary embodiments of the present invention where thefurniture 10 is acouch 14 or futon. As illustrated, thelap desk 12 may integrate with thecouch 14 in multiple configurations. Thelap desk 12 may rest in acompartment 32 on acenter console 34 of thecouch 14. Thelap desk 12 may be inserted into aslot 26 that may be built into thecouch 26. Thecouch 14 may further include anattachment device 28, such as a hook or bracket. In configurations including hooks, thelap desk 12 may include asocket 30 that may be placed onto and hang from the hook. In configurations including brackets, the brackets may be installed onto thecouch 14 and thelap desk 12 may rest on the brackets. -
FIGS. 8 through 10 provide exemplary embodiments of the present invention where thefurniture 10 is achair 16. As illustrated, thelap desk 12 may integrate with thechair 16 in multiple configurations. Thelap desk 12 may be inserted into aslot 26 that may be built into thechair 16. Thechair 16 may further include anattachment device 28, such as hooks or brackets. In configurations including hooks, thelap desk 12 may include asocket 30 that may be placed onto and hang from the hook. In configurations including brackets, the brackets may be installed onto thechair 16 and thelap desk 12 may rest on the brackets. -
FIG. 11 illustrates thelap desk 12 of the present invention in use. When desired, thelap desk 12 may be accessed from thefurniture 10 since thelap desk 12 may be integrated with thefurniture 10. The user may take hold of thelap desk 12 and utilize thelap desk 12 as illustrated. When the user is done using thelap desk 12, the user may then store thelap desk 12 back into thefurniture 10. - It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
Claims (5)
1. A furniture with an integrated lap desk comprising:
a furniture piece comprising an integration component; and
a lap desk,
wherein the lap desk is integrated and secured to the furniture piece via the integration component,
wherein the lap desk is configured to be removed from the integration component by a user.
2. The integrated lap desk apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the integration component comprises at least one of a compartment, a slot and an attachment device.
3. The integrated lap desk apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the attachment device comprises a hook and the lap desk comprises a socket configured to fit on the hook.
4. The integrated lap desk apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the furniture piece comprises at least one of a table, a chair and a couch.
5. The integrated lap desk apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising folding supports operatively connected to the lap desk.
