Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil or ti tree oil, is an essential oil, which is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca altemifolia.
- In some instances, the liner can be treated with silicone-containing substance to make hair look shiny and fresh. Silicones work by covering hair with a thin hydrophobic/waterproof coating thereby reducing the porosity of the hair, which makes it less likely to absorb humidity and reducing moisture loss from the inside of the hair as well as lubricating the surface of the hair so it looks smother and combs easier by making the hair feel slippery and less tangled. The silicone can include cyclomethicone, dimethicone copolyol, amodimethicone, dimethicone or silicone oil.
- As mentioned supra, the extract may be obtained from any method known in the art. It can be obtained by mixing a plant source with a solvent followed by elimination of the solvent, if necessary. Examples of suitable solvent include water, alcohols, organic solvents and mixtures thereof. Preferably, the plant source will be pretreated by drying and cutting the plaint into small pieces prior to the extraction process.
- The substance can be a synthetic phenolic compound having one or more phenolic hydroxyl groups, including a dydroxyl group directly bonded to an aromatic ring such as the benzene ring. According to some embodiments of the present invention, a liner can be treated with one or more phenolic compounds including diphenols such as catechol, 4-methylcatechol, 5-methylcatechol, resorcinol, 2-methylresorcinol, pyrogalol, 5-methylresorcinol, hydroquinoe, 4.4-biphenyldiol, 3,4-diphenyldiol, dopa, dopamine, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, paracoumaric acid, and tyrosine, gallic acid, tannic acid, epigallocatechin gallate, epicatechinn gallate, epigallocatechin, epicatechin, catechin, ethyl protocatechuate, propyl gallate, butyl gallate, nordihydroguairetic acid, quercetin, quercitrin and rutin.

- In some instances, an antistatic agent can be applied to the sheet. It can be, for example, copolymer of cation monomer dimethyl dialyl ammonium chloride and nonionic monomer acrylamide, or commercially available antistatic agents such as Orco Antistat TRI-275-S, Lenostat CP-5M, Dow Polyethylene Glycols and their derivatives such as
Carbowax PEG 300, or any other suitable antistatic agent. - In some instances, a scent-carrying substance, such as camphor, thymol, menthol, eucalyptus, or mixtures thereof, is applied to the cotton sheet. It can be applied in either a powder form or in solution with a solvent, which evaporates after spraying and drying.
- According to one method of the present invention,
liner 100 as shown inFIG. 1A can be placed overhairbrush 200,FIG. 1B , and then pressed against hairbrush bristles 210 thereby causing the hairbrush bristles punch through theliner 100 as shown inFIG. 1C . Referring toFIG. 2 , themethod 300 includes the steps of providing a hairbrush liner (step 310), placing the liner over a hairbrush having bristles (step 320), pressing the liner against the hairbrush bristles to cause the hairbrush bristles punch through the liner (step 330), and optionally, replacing the liner when needed (step 340), when the liner gets contaminated with dirt and/or hair as illustrated inFIG. 3A , for example. In some instances, the cotton sheet is adapted to receive the bristles of the hairbrush, by being perforated with openings. The openings can be round holes as illustrated inFIG. 3B , or oval holes, square holes, rectangular holes, rhomboidal holes, triangular holes, slits, or cross cut slits (similar to cross-cut straw slots in soft drink cup lids), or combination thereof, to make it easier for the liner to be attached to the hairbrush by pressing the sheet against the bristles and causing them to be projected through the holes or slits. The diameter of the openings can be the same as the diameter of the hairbrush bristles, preferably smaller than the diameter of the hairbrush bristles. In some instances, the openings are arranged in a concentric pattern, such as circular pattern, oval pattern, square pattern, rhomboidal pattern, or rectangular pattern. In some instances, the arrangement pattern of the openings on the sheet can match the arrangement pattern of bristles on the hairbrush, for example if the bristles are arranged in a concentric circle pattern, the openings are also arranged in a concentric circle pattern. In some instances, the patterns are not matched. -
FIG. 4 illustrates a method (400) of manufacturing a liner, which includes the steps of preparing a mixture of at least one substance in one or more solvents (410), applying the mixture to a non-woven cotton sheet (420), and then drying the non-woven cotton sheet to evaporate the solvent or solvents (430). In some instances, step 420 can be performed by spraying the mixture onto the sheet, in some other instances by immersion of the sheet into a bath with mixture, and in some other instances by gravure printing. When performing the spraying step, the mixture can be sprayed on one side of the sheet, or on both sides of the sheet. The mixture can be sprayed on one side of the sheet and dried, and then sprayed on another side of the sheet and dried; or it can be sprayed on both sides of the sheet and then dried. The drying can be performed at room temperature for a period of time, for example one or two hours, or it can be done at a temperature above room temperature, for example at 40 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. - It will be understood that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or central characteristics thereof. The present examples and embodiments, therefore, are to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, and the invention is not to be limited to the details given herein.
