Description

Oct. 15, 1935. c. DI GUISTIN 2,017,617
STREET REFLECTOR S IGN Filed Oct. 25, 1934 INVENT R Carmine DZ Guistzlrt Agtorn f Patented Oct. 15, 1935 STREET REFLECTOR SIGN Carmine di Guistin, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Application October 25, 1934, Serial No. 749,985
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a reflected illuminated street sign. Its primary object being to provide a street name sign having a mirror assoclated therewith whereby light rays from any convenient source may be projected thereon to illuminate the same.
A further object of the invention is to devise a street name sign one side of which appears as in the ordinary type, the other side being provided with a name sign having adjustable reflector illuminating means whereby the light rays from a nearbystreet lamp may be reflected thereon to illuminate the same so that both sides of the sign are illuminated from the one source and may be read when approaching from either direction.
With these and other objects in view that may appear while the description proceeds the invention consists inthe novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification and in which:
Fig. 1 is a view of the improved street name sign showing the illuminated side thereof.
Fig. 2 is a view of the reverse side to that shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-8 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the device.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views it will be seen the invention comprises a base if! having an elongated body portion ll secured thereon, said body being triangular in cross-section with one side 12, disposed in a vertical plane while the other side I3 is inclined at an angle from the vertical. A name plate I5 is bent upon itself in the form of a triangle and is fitted over the body H to cover the inclined and vertical faces thereof. The name plate is secured to the body by suitable fasteners and the street name I is printed on the opposed portions of the plate.
A mirror It positioned in a frame I1 is adjustably supported by brackets 18 on endframe members I9 which are in turn secured to the ends of body II. The end members l9 extend 5 upwardly above the body. the upper ends of the members being slightly curved to position the mirror directly above the inclined face of the name plate. Said mirror may be of glass or may be constructed from polished stainless steelor similar metal.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the mirror may be tilted to catch the light rays from a nearby street lamp or any other source of light 5 ient street light shines on one side thereof. 16.
The disclosure has specifically stated that the invention is to be used for street name signs but it is intended that the invention may be used for various types of advertising and the like with very slight modifications of the construction 20 thereof.
It is believed that the construction and advantages of the structure may be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing without further de- 25 tailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of co-operating 80 elements may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
A street indicating sign comprising a base, an elongated body of triangular cross section secured to said base, one face of said body being disposed in a vertical plane and its opposed face inclined to the vertical, a name plate bent upon itself in the form of a triangle adapted to fit over 40 the vertical and inclined faces of said body, said plate having names printed on the opposed portions thereof, end frame members connected to the ends of said body and extending above the top thereof, brackets adjustably connected to 4 said end members adjacent their upper ends, and a mirror supported by said brackets, said end members having their upper portions curved to position said mirror directly over the inclined face of said body, for reflecting light from a suitable source disposed on the vertical side of the body, onto the inclined face of the body.
