My invention relates to receptacles and to the component parts of receptacles of the metallicmesh pouch type adapted to accommodate compacts, cosmetics, or other toilet articles.

In articles of the mesh pouch type dilculty has been encountered in satisfactorily securing the mesh fabric to the clamping ring constituting the rim of the receptacle.

It was sought to effect this end by employing a clamping ring with a narrow upper downwardly curled fiange, and a broad inwardly projecting lower fiange that resulted in unduly restricting the capacity of the resulting receptacle by a retracted neck portion. Auxiliary to the clamping ring was employed a transversely angular ring comprising a horizontal annular plate resting upon the extended portion of the lower flange of the clamping ring, and a depending integral cylindrical plate provided with an annular disposed series of attaching holes.

'I'he rigid character of the auxiliary ring made it necessary to first form the lower flange of the clamping ring, then lay the upper plate of the auxiliary ring upon said lower flange, and later complete the formation of the clamping ring by downwardly bending thereover, upon an intervening lining member, the material forming the ultimate upper flange of the clamping ring. 'I'his piecemeal method of ring formation was slow and complicated.

The depending perforated cylindrical plate of the auxiliary ring lessened the area otherwise utilizable by the ornamental ring mesh, and the rigid character of the plate tended to cramp the mesh adjacent the attaching rings of the latter.

The essential objects of my invention are to overcome the above recited deficiencies and disadvantages; to facilitate the assemblage of the parts; and to provide a metallic mesh pouch of such a construction as to enable the usual so called lining to be dispensed with when and if desired.

With the above ends in view, together with other advantageous features hereinafter apparent and to be adverted to, my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

In the construction illustrated I represents a receptacle of the metallic mesh type wherein I2 is a transversely U shaped retaining ring or rim, l0 comprising a peripheral portionA or back I4 and horizontally disposed, fiat, guiding lips I5 cooperating with the back to form an annular :cavity I6.

The receptacle is preferably provided with 2.15 closure. In the present instance the closure comprises a circular convex cover I 'I resting upon the ring I2 and having integral peripheral hinge sleeves I8 embracing a pivot pin I9 fixed to the retaining ring. A catch A22 consists of an integral v2,0 curved tongue upon the edge of the cover engageable with the retaining ring. An arched thumb bearing 24 is fixed to the latter to assist the manual manipulation of the catch.

In this instance a circular frame 26 has its back 25 21 fixed to the cover I'I, and its side 2B surrounding a mirror 29 and a backing 30. A retaining ring 3I frictionally embracing the side of the frame overlaps the margin of the mirror, whichv extends into the receptacle when the cover is 30 closed.

A container member 34, shown detached in Figure 4, includes a substantially fiat carrier frame comprising a circular series of radially disposed, integrally connected, interspaced loops 36, 35 from which depends a horizontally disposed, resilient, spiral, suspension ring 31 to which it is attached by the loose interengagement of the constituent coils 38 of the suspension ring with the successive loops 36 of the frame, through which 40 the coils are threaded. In threading, the coils 38 also successively pass loosely through the several adjacent rings or links 39 constituting the uppermost row of links of a flexible mesh pouch or bag 40. The mesh is preferably metallic and, as shown in Figure 6, is of the type of mesh fabric known as coat of mail." Other usual or preferred types of mesh fabric or other suitable material may be employed.

'I'he container 34 with its three elements assembled as described is suited for facile engagement with the ring I 2. This is effected by manually compressing the frame portion 35, whose maximum diameter exceeds the minimum diameter of the ring I2, and is radially, circularly, 55

and transversely resilient, to admit its periphery to the cavity I6 of the ring l2, and then releasing said frame portion to permit the latter to impel itself instantly and iirmly in the cavity, with its inner margin projecting slightly from the lips. Hence no clamping or compression of the guide lips l5 or other mechanical steps or structures for securing the container 34 is necessary to insure the security of its engagement with the ring l2.

The described interengagement completes the receptacle which is adapted to receive any desired contents. In this instance the contents consists of a powder compact 43 surmounted by a powder puff 44 as shown in Figure 3.

Not only does the resilient spiral suspension ring 3l facilitate the interengagement of the carrier frame 35 with the bag 40, but permits movement of the bag margin both radially and circularly, thus relieving strain upon the fabric and preventing wrinkles or gatherings of the latter at and along its attached edge.

When any of the contents of the haga-re so line or comminuted as to sift through the receptacle the latter may be rendered impervious by the insertion of a lining member or internal bagY 46 0f a leather fabric, oi other flexible material into the receptacle, as shown in Figure 7. The bag 46 comprises a body portion 41, and an annular horizontal lip 48 at its'top overlapping the carrier frame 35 within the retaining ring l2. As herein shown the contents of the receptacle includes loose powder 50.

I claimt- 1. In an article of the class described, a retaining ring provided with an annular recess, an annular resilient carrier frame in the recess, a bag, and a spiral suspension ring laterally engaging both the frame and the bag.

2. In an article of the class described, a horizontal retaining ring comprising a back and inwardly directed guide lips, an annular radially compressible carrier frame of normally greater diameter than the minimum diameter of the ring engageable with the ring between the lips, and a. mesh bag supported by the carrier frame.

3. In an article of the class described, a retaining ring provided with an annular recess, a. carrier frame comprising a circular series of radially disposed loops extending into the recess, a metallic mesh bag, and a spiral suspension ring comprising coils passing through the loops and secured tol the bag.

4. In an article of the class described, a retaining ring provided with a horizontal recess, a resilient carrier frame comprising a series of radial loops mounted in the recess, a circularly yielding suspension ring comprising coils loosely engaging the loops, and a mesh bag provided with a series of openings adapted to receive the loops.

5. In an article of the class described, a retaining ring, a carrier frame comprising a. series of loops supported by said ring, a metallic mesh bag including a circular row of attaching rings, and a suspension ring comprising coils engaging the loops and the attaching rings;

6. As a new article of manufacture, a. container for a receptacle, said container including a resilient carrier frame comprising a circular series of loops, a metallic mesh bag comprising a series of attaching rings, and a spiral suspension ring comprising coils successively engaging the loops and the attaching rings.

7. In an article of the class described, a retaining ring provided with an annular recess, a carrier frame in the recess, a metallic mesh bag, a spiral suspension ring engaging both the frame and bag, and a lining bag within the mash bag and the suspension ring including a lip extending into the recess and overlapping the carrier frame.
