An `object of the invention is the provision of va sanitary garment having abase member formed of waterproof material upon which is removably 5 supported an absorbent pad.

,Another object of the invention is the provision of a sanitary garment including a sheet of waterproof material and anabsorbent pad removably supported on the sheet, the sheetbeing provided With a pocket along one edge to receive one end of '.'theppad for centering and aiding in retaining the pad on the waterproof material.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a sanitary garment which includes a sheet of waterproof material and a pad of absorbent material removably supported on the sheet, the sheet of waterproof material being provided with extensions projecting from points adjacent the ends of the pad with the sheet being provided with an elongated shallow pocket to removably receive and frictionally support one endof the pad.

This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, in View of the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification; nevertheless, it is to be understood that the invention is not coniined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications as deiine no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, I0 designates a sheet of waterproof material which may be rubberized fabric. This sheet is of substantially rectangular shape but may take any desired form suitable for the purpose. The back of the sheet may have secured thereto a piece of fabric |13a of non-waterproof material.

One end of the sheet is provided with a binding of fabric material, as shown at for reinforcing the end of the sheet. The fabric is formed of soft material to prevent irritation to the body of the wearer. The `binding strip maybe secured in any approved Amanner tothe sheet.

A piece of soft fabric of suiiicient length and 4width is folded upon itself longitudinally, as

shown at .I2 and I3, and is then secured together V5 adjacent its outer ends as Aby stitching shown at .|4. This portion ,of the v'strip forms attaching straps |5.

The rear face jof the intermediate portion of ythe section `:|21is connected to the rear upper fface l0 of the :sheets :L0 fand t0?, as shownat I6. The

portion I32L of the section I3 extends over the front iace of the waterproof sheet |0 to provide a pocket 20. The transverse stitching 2| forms the ends of the pocket. This pocket while being 15 slightly longer than the width of the sheet of waterproof material I0 is relativelyshallow.

A pad 25 may be formed of folds of cotton lint surrounded by a piece of gauze so that a neat compact packing is provided. One end of the pad is inserted within the pocket 20 and there is sufficient frictional resistance between the outer surface of the pad and the inner face of the member |3EL for aiding in retaining the pad in the pocket and for aiding in supporting the pad on thesheet of waterproof material.

It will be noted that the sheet |0 is of less width than the pad 25 so that the pad projects beyond the edges of the sheet and prevents the sheet from coming in contact with the body of the wearer. Thus the pad protects the wearer from chafing.

A modied form of the invention is shown in Figs. 3 and 4 and includes a triangularly-shaped base member 26. The base member is composed of a centrally disposed sheet 26a of waterproof material, which may be formed of rubberized faric, and three attaching members 35, 34 and 35a formed of soft fabric which will not cause chang of the skin of the wearer.

A strip 21 of soft material is secured along three edges as shown at 28 and 29 to one face of the waterproof material 26, so that one edge 30 of the strip is free and spaced from the outer face of the sheet 26. The strip thus secured to the sheet provides an elongated pocket of relatively shallow depth.

A pad 3| formed identically in the manner of the pad 25 has its upper end 32 inserted within 50 the pocket 33 and frictionally engaged by the inner face of the strip 21 for aiding in retaining the pad on the waterproof material.

It will be noted that the corners 34 and 3l! of the triangularly-shaped sheet 26 extend laterally 55 from the same material as the

' It will be appreciated that this type of pad may be employed in connection with either of the devicesshovvn in Figs. l and 3 Without necessitati'ngV any changes in thebase member which supports the pad.

` These pads may be formed of cotton lint andY coveredwith a light soft gauze or they may be formed of thin sheets or cellulose material which may be in the form of a ne tissue paper and packed together for the purpose as is well known in the art.

I claim:

l. A diaper comprising a sheet of Waterproof 6 material provided with a pocket, a strip of soft material forming the outer Wall of said pocket, a pad of absorbent material disposed longitudinally of the Waterproof material and having one end received bythe pocket, said pad being spaced 10 outwardly of the waterproof material.

2. A diaper comprising a sheet of waterproof jmaterial provided with a pocket at one end, a. nstrip of soft material forming the outer wall of said pocket, a pad of absorbent material disposed l5 longitudinally of the Waterproof material and having one end received by said pocket, the Wa.-

Yterproof material having attaching portions projecting outwardly from the pad adjacent the ends of said pad and formed of soft material.

3. A diaper comprising a sheetiof waterproof 'materiaL a strip of soft fabric secured to the material adjacent an edge thereof to provide an elongated and 'relatively shallow pocket, a pad of absorbent material having one end divided 25 into an youter and inner portion, the inner portion being disposed in the pocket, the outer portion of the divided end being disposed in overlapping relation with the shallow pocket.
