Description
1,593,940 A. L. KlNG v SANITARY NAPKIN Filed Jan. '7 1920 Patented July 27, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
ANNIE L. KING, OF CHICAGO. ILLINOIS.
SANITARY NAZPKIN.
- Application filed January My invention relates to sanitary napkins and has for its principal object the provision of a simple and efficient device of this character which is formed all in one piece, and which is comparatively inexpensive to manufacture and sell, so that it need be used but once.
A further object is the provision of a simple and etficient device of this character which can be easily and quickly adjusted to position on a wearer and as easily and quickly removed therefrom.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
An embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. forming a part of this specification, and in which Fig. 1 is a view, in perspective, indicating the device in position on the wearer.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with a belt member partially broken away.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view, in perspective, similar to Fig. 1, but showing a modified form of belt.
My improvement is adapted to be formed of comparatively inexpensive materials and easily and cheaply manufactured so that the device can be produced at a price so that it can be usedbut once and then discarded. In the form of the invention shown, I have indicated a covering or envelope 5 of 'an elongated gauze tubing or the like. This tubing may be formed of knit or woven fabrics or absorbent paper in long strips and cut off to the desired lengths for making up the articles or formed in any other desirable manner. It will also be apparent that it may be made of'strips folded over in the form of a tube with their longitudinal edges engaging each other to form the easing or covering.
In the central portion of the device is provided an absorbent material 6, which may be ordinary cotton, medicated cotton or any other desirable substance which will readily absorb fluids. When the covering 5 is made of a knit or'woven fabric 7, 1920. Serial N0. 349,889.
the material 6 will be held in place by friction, although it will be apparent that 5 is stitched-as at 9 between folded over portions of the band 10. By attaching the band 10 to the covering 9 in this manner a very smooth thin. connection is provided which does not inconvenience the wearer. It will be apparent however that the belt 10 may be attached to the covering 5 in other desirable manners.
The belt 10 may be a piece of braid of a length sufficient to pass around the wearerls body and tie in a knot. It will be apparent, however, that the ends of the belt 10 may be secured together in any other desirable manner.
In Fig. 4 I have indicated the belt 10 as being formed by splitting the covering 5 for a sufficient length, tying'the ends together as at 11 to form the belt. With this construction it will be'apparent that the device consists of but two parts, the covering 5 and the absorbent material 6, with of course stitchings forming the loop 8.
I claim A sanitary napkin comprising an elongated tubular covering member fabricated in tubular form so that the member ,is peripherally integral, said member having one end portion folded back and stitched upon such covering forming a loop and its other end portion bifurcated providing an integral belt engaging said loop, and a body of absorbent material inserted into the interior of said tubular member and held by friction in the tubular covering between the loop and bifurcated portion.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification on this 12th day .of December A. D. 1919.
ANNIE L. KING.
